Well, I made this this evening
    It's lovely....

Although, I have just realised that I didn't use any nutmeg, or butter:o... I kinda forgot about them.

Also, I didn't have any parmesan, so I used a mature chedder....

Oh, and I didn't have any rissoto rice, so I used pudding rice :rotfl:thats been lurking in the cupboard for a while :D

I did toast the pumpkin seeds... but I'm not convinced about them. Maybe they were a little too cooked (read burnt) :o, so I didn't use them in the end.

Actually reading back, I really didn't follow the recipe at all eh ??:rotfl::o
Never mind. It was enjoyed. And it will be made again.
Thanks for the inspiration Penny :D

    Mouse-aka, possibly? (Sorry, couldn't resist it! :o)

I had mice in the flat I lived in a couple of years ago - eventually my cat "disposed" of the problem, and I'm not sure if that wasn't worse than the mice!

I did my cupboard inventory yesterday and discovered that... I only have one tin of tomatoes left.:eek:
    Mouse-aka!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
No cats here alas but I can imagine the clean up being a bit messy. But it would save on cat food! _pale_ Sorry!

Hope the tinned tomato crisis is in hand - sounds pretty dire! :D

No, clearing out last year's pies :o so I can make loads more :j
And if you make enough you can resurrect them this time next year!:D

Thanks Lizzie, I'm grand apart from being terrified of the mice in my house!:Di They have been in hiding today - unfortunately that means they are not walking into my humane trap! You poor thing - how's the tooth? Will that stop you eating through your stores?

Congrats on your son's wedding MissyChrissy! :j

Confession time: My ex treated me to a takeaway yesterday as he was up to empty the humane mouse trap for me. I guess he felt sorry for me! I'd originally planned to do a nice tuna thing but didn't fancy spending much time in the kitchen after The Mouse Problem. So I accepted his kind offer :o

Today was just oven fish and chips again - bunged hastily in the oven so I could flee to the relative safety of the couch and hide under a fleece throw! It's silly to be so scared I know!

Tomorrow's menu for me: porridge with raisins for breakfast, homemade spicy carrot soup for lunch, tuna and pasta for dinner.
And the mice will be be having peanut butter served in a humane trap :rotfl:
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Chaotic day here with delivery of new fridge & freezer, then new bedroom furniture for DD came separately, about half an hour later someone came to collect DD's old high sleeper and as a result I haven't stopped all day! My lunch was a cup-a-soup, tea was left over stew from the other night which was still in the slowcooker so put that on this morning and had 2 helpings for tea :o:rotfl:

Tomorrow I have a new bed for DD arriving and all her stuff needs to be moved out of my room  I need to finish painting the livingroom as there's still 2 walls left to do  I also need to home my new fridge & freezer, freecycle all the polystyrene packaging and whatever else comes up  Me thinks, as naughty as it is, I may end up going to the chippy at the bottom of the road and getting a meal since lunch is going to be cous-cous as I have no cup-a-soups left :o Not got any fruit or sandwich stuff except jam & cheese either so Asda shop is needed as well. So much for my baking idea to fill my new freezer, I serious doubt I'll have time this week after all :o
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

    Mmmmmmm
    Pumpkin risotto

Do you have a recipe for that SanFran ?
I have never tried to make it, but I think I would put in onions... and maybe a little sage .... but I am just curious, as to what your recipe uses :o:D

    Ta
    Potty :D

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner with this (I keep losing the thread:confused:)
And hopefully you will remember that my cooking is "by the seat of my pants style")

OK so pumpkin and a onion, (I used dried onions, but then I am trying to use loads of boxes up at the moment) that has been fried in oil and LOTS of black pepper, (you may want to use butter)
2 stock cubes, garlick, 1 cup of barley (that feeds four adults)
    all spice, cinnamon.
basically just boil it all up till the water is absorbed and the barley is cooked.
It is really filling, and as a side dish a little goes a lot way, we just had a bowl of this with some bread, Good Autumn eating!

    Thanks SanFran...
I did do a very similar version, to something, as described HERE :o:rotfl:
    But it was very tasty.
I will be definately making it again :D

Nicki... have you just moved ??
I only ask, because, surely "testing" the local chippy is a way of maintaining your sanity...
If you "test" it now, you will know if its any good or not.
If you wait for a year, you will always wonder "I wonder what that chippy is like..... "
Thus dementing yourself unnessicarily for the whole time ;)

I discovered 4 tins of salmon in my cupboard today
I dont even like tinned salmon, so who knows why thats there.
Not sure what I can turn it in to either. All I can think of is fish cakes
Any one got any ideas ??

I am about to empty a few kilo's of various berries out of the freezer... to make wine :D:cool:

Switched on the spare fridge/freezer in the garage last night for the first time since Mum gave it to us last year. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing?

Loaded it with three chickens on special offer and lots of carrier bags to fill the freezer drawers. These will be replaced with the gallons of soup and mince pies I am making on Sunday. The chickens will be used for a roast then turned into a combination of chicken pie, curry, casserole and soup for DH over the next couple of weeks. I also want to have the space to grab whoopsies and special offers that I don't have room for. DH wants to fillit with ice lollies:rolleyes:

As a veggie who doesn't cook a great deal of meat I am a bit unsure of how many times I can freeze the chicken. My plan was to roast the frozen chicken, freeze the cooked meat then turn it into say a chicken pie when I had time which would then be frozen. Is this freezing and defrosting too many times?:confused:Would it be okay if I didn't freeze the cooked meat but made it straight into a pie and froze that?

I got a load of carrots on special offer so need to make some carrot soup which I haven't made before but I have found a nice recipe for carrot and leek I might try.

You should only freeze once raw and once cooked (and reheat cooked once only)
So if you made it into a pie (without heating the chicken-ie make the sauce, let it cool, add the the chicken) you could then freeze and reheat later. Def don't freeze cooked meat, thaw, make pie (heat chicken) freeze again thaw and reheat again
(well I say def don't we quite often freeze leftover enchiladas or risotto made with already cooked chicken and its not killed my OH yet, but I would not recommend it-or usually eat it myself-my constitution is much less iron-like than his :D)

You beat me to it, hotcookie - I had typed out much the same answer but my computer crashed before I could post it (serves me right for posting on the forum at work, I suppose :o).

The rest of my post (if it works) said:

Nuala - I hope your mouses get the hint and go away soon. I'm quite fond of them, personally, but definitely not in the house!

Nicki - I think going to the chippy sounds like a reasonable plan - you're not going to be able to decorate if you're starving to death, are you? ;)

nopot2pin - could you use your salmon in a fish pie? I've never tried using tinned fish in a pie but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Today's meals use up mini cheese and ham pasties to go with my soup for lunch, and chilli con carne and a small piece of miscellaneous frozen cheese for chilli burritos for dinner. :)

And then on Friday I can go shopping and acquire some more tinned tomatoes - I know re-stocking cupboards isn't the point of this thread but my stores look a bit bare without their usual load of tinned toms!
Back after a very long break!
