Store cupboard challenge

I know what you mean. My tubs or plastics as I call them, take up a whole corner unit. They often fall out when I open the door as they are such diverse shapes and sizes that they do not always sit well together. In addition if I wash up a few together that are similar I have a struggle to fit the right top to it's bottom.0

The set I have to hand as it were is very good, I think it consists of ten pieces and they all fit together inside each other, it was dirt cheap from Woolies (I do miss Woolies for odd things like that). The other odds and sods are in a big carrier bag on the pantry floor, ah the joys of a pantry, hides a lot of 'clutter'. I regained half the floor after my cat died, now I don't have to store bags of cat litter and umpteen tins of cat food.
missychrissy I have visions of you skulking in the dead of night raiding peoples recycling boxes for empty wine bottles and cursing those that don't drink, that's an awful lot of wine.Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw
apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.0 -
Well done Faith. It's been surprising to me how much food can be 'saved' by keeping and eating all the left overs first.0

I have been buying the lock 'n'lock boxes whenever I go anywhere near a john lewis's.They are brilliant for storage.I also have a stack of those chines container boxes which are brilliant for one portion stuff, plus they stack beautifully on top of each other in the freezer.I live alone so when I do chilli or spag bol sauce I can make a lb of mince with veg and a handful of oats spreeeead out into 9-10 boxes.0

I checked my shelf in the freezer last night and I have:
2 portions veg curry (in one tub, so will be 2 nights running)
1 portion veg curry
2 portions veg hotpot (in one tub)
1 portion soya mince chilli
1 portion dahl
3 unidentified portions, individually frozen, for when I need some 'excitement':rotfl::rolleyes:
'Frandlord' is cooking veggie mince Lancashire hotpot, so no doubt at lease 2 portions to freeze afterwards.
I have apples and satsumas I got yesterday, then potatoes, brocolli, carrots and frozen peas, various cheeses, plus (shame I know:o) 2 frozen pizzas - whoopsied to 34p each, and about 8 veggie fingers and 5 quorn sausages. Thats LOTS of meals!
No shopping for me this week!
Well done :T There are lots of others of us doing just the same, on the Storecupboard Challenge threadI'll add this to that thread and you can join in

:hello:morning!
Busy weekend but I'm still in the challenge! I haven't managed to list everything yet (too scared of what I'll find! tbh)
so far I have used up:-
Jar of organic carrots - 2 meals
1 tin mango slices - dessert 1 meal and breakfast another
1 tin chopped tomatoes - added to soya mince and leftover pizza sauce
last of the fishfingers
remains of froz bag of sliced beans
2 sponge puds
2 individual ice creams (no more left!for now)
2 pork chops
bag of pasta
We had to spend £4.20 at our local farmshop to get in a 10kg bag of potatoes, essential as I have some frozen fish to use up and sachets of mushroom sauce - so fish pies:D
I had £3.44 left to spend so after £4.20 was 76p overdrawn. This weeks £15 is therefore now £14.24 and my fortnightly organic box is delivered tomorrow! so £2.29 to cover eggs etc., eeeek!:eek:Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
Jan grocery challenge £35.77/£1200 -
I finished my inventory last night - I've typed it all up and put it on top of the freezer so I don't forget what I've got and buy anymore duplicates.
Tonight's dinner will use up a stray lamb chop from the freezer. That's it for today, but every little helps, as the adverts say!Back after a very long break!0 -
I got in late last night after a long drive home to find DH had made pasta bake with garlic bread using everything from the stores. It was even what was on the meal plan. How he knew I don't know. Maybe I am reciting it in my sleep!
Anyhow, it was much appreciated and earned him huge brownie points:D
Can't wait for the Mr T delivery today (how sad an I getting excited about groceries:o) as we have had no milk, bread or fruit since yesterday. It has meant that I have had to start using the boxes of herbal tea in the back of the cupboard though which isn't a bad thing.
I will need to buy a pack of value grated cheese next week as DH was a little generous with the amount he used last night and I need some for my meal plan next week but apart from that I will not shop until next weekend and just for fruit then I would think.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
Staying with parents for a few days. WIll take the chance to make a plan to last me till the end of the year. See if I can rein in the budget so it is within desired limits.
I found a couple of food receipts that were missing from last year's list the other day! It took me £17 over last year. I wonder if I can get that off this year's too? Hmm. The freezer is stuffed and I need room for a couple of things for Christmas, so we must start using up I think.
I have nearly enough UHT, got cheese in the freezer, a 16kg bag of flour, meals in the freezer, spread in the freezer, tins of stuff for butties, beans, tomatoes etc. just need to be ORGANISED!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Did anyone post thisThis is my recipe:
Chop a small pumpkin into 8, reserving seeds and roasting them on a baking sheet. Sprinkle the pumpkin with olive oil, pepper and nutmeg and bake until soft. Remove the skin and chop into big lumps.
Sweat an oinion and some garlic in butter, until soft. Add about 60g risotto rice or barley per person. Have a pan of simmering stock and add this a ladelful at a time until the rice is cooked and the liquid absorbed. Add the chunks of pumpkin, season to taste, and add more butter
Serve sprinkled with parmesan shavings and the toasted pumpkin seeds.
Penny. x
