Ok, out with the yeast then! I had a feeling that may be the case because it's active isn't it?

And I wondered if the pizza bases would be the same as they have yeast in them? But I'll give them a go and see.

Olliebeak - I was thinking of making something with the chicken breasts and condensed soup, and freezing that for a later date.

The problem is I have made quite a bit of casserole tonight - one beef and two turkey, so I will run out of pots if I'm not careful, as well as get myself in a muddle! So plan B was to freeze them as they are for now.

The turkey slices I will either freeze individually or make into sandwiches now and freeze - can't make my mind up. They would be for dd2 and she hasn't that many sandwich days left this term... Do frozen made up sandwiches need using quicker than frozen turkey slices would? Or would both be fine until mid-january?

Banana bread comes out quite nice in our bread maker. The recipe says to put chopped nuts in but we don't bother and it's fine. It would be nice to have an alternative though.

I made a saucepan of soup tonight (just veggies) and it was lovely - all gone already, between me, DD1 and DH! I didn't get as far as liquidising it! It's made me feel more confident about making more at least. :j

I save the 1kg tubs from margarine (or Ice Cream!) for freezing casseroles/soups in - they stack quite well in the freezer. Just have to remember to write on the lids what's in them - though if you don't, it CAN make life quite interesting :D.

I don't usually cook, I'm rubbish at it and usually just stick a pizza in the oven ;)

But for some reason I feel like cooking today. Problem is, I don't have a lot of money to spend on ingredients, I don't mind spending a small amount on them but if there is anything that I already have that can be used then all the better. So here is what is in my cupboards...

    -Lemon Juice
    -Paprika
    -Olive Oil
    -Vegetable oil
    -Two tins of tuna
    -Red chilli powder
    -Chicken oxo cubes
    -Bisto gravy granules
    -Clear Honey
-Spongebob square pants spaghetti shapes (I forgot about them!)
    -Tomato puree
-Some mayflower medium curry sauce mix
-One packet of micro egg fried rice
    -Flour
    -Rice
    -Pasta shells
    -Spaghetti
-One packet of straight to wok thread noodles
    -Garlic italian herbs
-Probably not important but also various sauces (sweet chilli, tomato, brown, relish)

    In the fridge I have...

    -Mayonnaise
    -Branston pickle
    -Tartare sauce
    -Marg
    -2 little apple pies
-A small amount of Channel Island thick cream (could be off now)

    In the freezer is....

    -Chips
    -Sweetcorn
    -Coffee ice cream
    -A pizza ;)
-There is a big packet of chicken thighs in there too but I had another pack and they were awful so I'd rather they went into the bin.

Okay, I think that's about it. It's just me in the house so don't need huge amounts. Oh and I can't use my grill (don't ask). Any ideas?

  • Garlic italian herbs???

do you mean garlic and italian herbs... I was thinking that you could maybe try and bone the chicken thighs and stuff them with something. I did this the other week and they were fantastic, I cooked them for about 2 hours in the slow cooker in gravy (stuffed with paxo) and then finished them off in the oven to brown them, they were melt in the mouth (I dont usually get on that well with Thighs)

    Just a thought.....

    Thanks
    Sylvia

Maybe dredge the chicken thighs in flour, put in a baking dish or shallow casserole, make some stock with cubes, paprika, seasoning, garlic herbs, pour over the thighs and call it goulash (slow bake for a couple of hours, sauce should thicken, and you could have it with boiled rice). If you feel really brave, put the clotted cream into the sauce too, applying the UK standard sniff test and being prepared to reclassify it as creme fraiche or even cheese depending on results).

Also some possibilities with corn and tuna and pasta, but pasta/tuna/corn holds dire associations with me from student days.
  • Yum, yours sounds better lol :D

If you're cooking them for 2 hours and don't mind bones on the table, you can put them in frozen to be honest.

Go for it I say, you always have the pizza as a backup ;)

But the flour wouldn't stick to them then, would it? I'm the worst cook ever, I don't think about things logically ;)
