Amazon are selling these three HP desktops most expensive first :
ww.amazon.co.uk/Pavilion-Slimline-S5203uk-Processor-Ethernet/dp/B002R8L6NS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258876702&sr=1-4
ww.amazon.co.uk/Pavilion-Slimline-s5210uk-Desktop-Processor/dp/B002S52WEC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258876702&sr=1-2

Can someone translate to me what the differences are processor and memory wise please? Would the most expensive make much of a difference? I'm not fussed about the wireless keyboard and mouse that the more expensive two are offering over the cheapest. Would like to understand the processor/memory aspects.( eg I had the impression that intel was a better make than AMD
)
Thank you.

The Most expensive Intel based model is a waste of money.
Yes it has newer faster memory, the DDR3 stuff. However the processor is not much faster than the cheaper intel machine. Also the processors are being phased out so upgrades in the future will be harder to come by.
The Athlon PC has 4 processor as opposed to the Intel's 2, it also uses the newer memory which is a boon. On top of that it is a new style processor so upgrades later will be easier to come by.
The 4 core/ 2 core debate will say the intel will be better in a lot of single tasks however the athlon will be better as software takes advantage of multiple cores and for general multi-tasking.
My money is on the Athlon Machine. It also has better graphics, not by much to be fair, more memory and double the storage space. The tv card and wireless can be bought for about £15 each as usb devices.New PV club member. 3.99kW system. Solar Edge with 14 x 285W JA Solar panels. 55° West from south and 35° pitch.0 -
That is brilliant. Just the kind of simple explanation I needed. Thanks for taking the time to reply and to the poster for putting in the links.
My only problem now after having just seen the HP in John Lewis, an Acer seemed similar in size ( needs to be small) so will explore various versions of these online.
I may be back shortly.
In fact are Acer and HP comparable in general?0 -
^IMO, HP (esp. with regard to desktops) are of better build quality.0

Have you looked at Dell?
BTW, you do realise with all those on amazon you are just buying the tower unit, not the monitor or anything else (forgive me if you realise that)0 -
Thanks to the last two posters. Yes I just need a tower ( and a compact one).
I did think the HP had put more effort in making it look pretty compared to the Acer next to it but tried not to let that put me off.I'll bear in mind what you've said Busenbust
I looked at Dell website yesterday but don't recall seeing anything compact. I'll go back.
The Acer was the X3812 by the way:

Yes, just to point out, I was not talking really about aesthetics (although it matters I suppose). I mean, comparatively, the HP desktops are well put together. I have seen a number of acer desktops with misaligned network cards, vga/dvi cards - it sends out a really bad impression. ( I am currently dithering between an acer netbook and a samsung NC50 netbook - the samsung wins hands down.)0 -
Yes I realised you meant build. It was just interesting seeing the two side by side in the shop.
Just trying to navigate round Dell at the moment looking at sizes.0 -

Sorry, I meant the Samsung N510.0 -
