Proliant or anyone got a question, just transfered £1000 from capital one 34.9% to barclaycard 6.9% so now my capital one balance is zero,do you think it would be a good idea to now close capital one down, but want to apply for a decent purchase card in october what effect would closing capital one down have on my application...
    Thanks

I would have though so, although I recall 10 years ago applying for a cap one card, it getting accepted then later declined. I only found out after 6 months they had been reporting green zeros to the CRA's all this time so I used it very successfully to build up my credit. I later queried it with them and they marked it as satisfied but this obviously is not what you want. Do you have a record of your sort code and account number, as if you have an say your passport you could go into a branch and try and bluff your way into getting them to order you a card. It is after all your account.

I tryed that and there was a note on the account. I the had to send a copy of my credit file to a dpt of RBS explaining a few things and they said it wouldnt be a problem and then i got a letter saying no.

But they still continue to report on my file

Very strange. I wonder if NHuner or CIFAS have a hand in here somewhere. Do you have any other or have you had any other product at all with a compnay that is in the RBS Group (like a style card), which as far as I know is now much bigger than it used to be. As the do a group search as well and there could be an error in your data.

But, apart from that I am running out of idea sorry. If I think of anything else I will let you know.

Make an official complaint to RBS, stating that they said it 'wouldn't be a problem'. The idiots in the branches need to be spanked and learn they can't say anything to customers just to get them to apply for product to make their figures appear better!

How long have you had this balance on your Capital One? I'd wait just to make sure any trailing interest is paid off first, otherwise closing now can cause you some inconvenience.

If you've only got two credit cards, it could help you by keeping it open until October. Closing it won't have any effect to your credit file but leaving it open can potentially improve your rating.

Cheers elky i basically want rid of the capital one because of the high interest,i have had this card since feb 2008,but in october want to apply for either m&s card or tesco cc,just wondered the actual effect that would have on the application, would closing it down settled still look as good as still running the account, the balance is now zero but now going to start using the flybe as it is 15% lower apr,cut a long story short what would you do elky....
