    I don't know my OH got accepted for two orange contracts, with very expensive handsets (Samsung Omnia HD and Nokia N97), whilst there's a big fat red Default to O2 for nearly a grand, only just two years old at the time, when he got the Orange deals!!

    Guess not so hard to get accepted then...

    Yeah I have a few defaults, so really pleased. It is a SIM only plan, but still, my plan is use my existing iPhone with Orange SIM in it, then when new iPhone is released, upgrade to that :D

    Hi guys
    Just spent the last few days reading this part of the subprime threads!
    Just looking for a wee bit of advice. I am coming to face facts that even though I have managed to get a mortgage from Nationwide in the last few months I just won't get a mainstream card.

    My experian is defunct now because it has too many searches. I now have decided that I will have to use either Barclays or Sygma card. The issue is I am a Stay at home mum. The household income is 20,544.

    I am on the electoral role, but have just only got on as we moved in here the end of November. I have no defaults, CCJs or major arrears. I have one missed payment in the last 4 years and that was only 1 month. I did however go over my capital one limit when I first got the card and I had set up a direct debit for the minimum when I activated. However it never went out so I got charged as well as my interest and it went over limit. Yes my fault I should have kept an eye out! Anyway that was just under a year ago. Now should I go for Barclays Initial or one of the Sygmas and if so which one?

    Thank you for any advice in advance!

    P.S Nearly got an MBNA card in November, but the lady that went over my application on the phone got snippy when seeing I'd gone over my limit on my Cap One. She had been happy otherwise!

    Sygma may be the better bet as they don't ask for personal income like Barclaycard, they ask for household income.

    If it's not on the credit report, Halifax won't be able to see it
  • Thanks izools

    It's difficult knowing which ones include the whole household income!

    you have any info on how to do that? like addresses i need and who to make the postal order to and stuff

    how long does it take?

    Its all listed here mate: Credit Reference Agencies / Obtaining your Credit Record

    How to obtain your credit file:
    You have the right to write to any of the credit reference agencies and ask for a copy of your credit reference file, which will cost you £2.

    Your letter should include:
    • your full name -also any other names you have been known by e.g. your maiden name;
    • your full address including postcode;
    • any addresses where you have lived over the past six years;
    • your date of birth; and
    • a cheque or postal order for £2 made payable to the credit reference agency.
    You should keep a copy of your letter and you may want to send it by recorded delivery. The credit reference agency has 7 working days to send you your file after receiving your letter and fee. Sometimes the credit reference agencies need more information from you before they can send you your file. For example, they may need proof of your name and address from a utility bill or bank statement. This is important to make sure that no one else gets your file by mistake or to check that no one else has fraudulently applied for your credit reference file. The agencies do not have to send you your file until they get this information.

    The addresses of the credit reference agencies are:
    Equifax Plc

    PO Box 1140
    Bradford

    I'm still a Student so that Halifax appeal is going off in the morning! I was suspended by uni because I had "financial sanctions", due to those clowns from Student Finance. Never heard anything from the uni either way though which I still think it pretty appalling.... I just noticed (by chance) that I was unsuspended today, and on doing some hunting it appears SLC have finally paid up for my new course so that’s what must have caused me to be unsuspended. It's just ironic the day I miss an assesment is the day they finally take action against me!!

    Either way I hate it and I'm on the way out, it's just easier to get a transfer when you're a current student as opposed to a suspended/kicked out student!:rotfl:

    Sorry mate, when I used the abbreviation NW that was NationWide in response to you. Natwest are easy and search 2 years (as Tesco) - avu only kicks in if they are not happy with something, so I guess they are classed as easy to be honest mate......

    Your other points are correct, if you have a great file but one default from 4 years ago you may find the default itself has no affect at all on you getting credit, miss a payment or similar and it could have a big bad effect..... make sense. :p

    Does Flybe CC do credit checks up to 3 years? (as long no missed payments/adverse info recorded in last 3 years)

    Sygma mate so they will do 3 years but people on here have defaults aged 1-2yrs and have an account so it is worth it, I think you cannot have ccj's or fraud but maybe older defaults are ignored? Its gotta be worth a try if you've not got 100's of searches.. :p
