How to obtain your credit file:
You have the right to write to any of the credit reference agencies and ask for a copy of your credit reference file, which will cost you £2 (Statutory Credit Report).

Your letter should include:
  • your full name -also any other names you have been known by e.g. your maiden name;
  • your full address including postcode;
  • any addresses where you have lived over the past six years;
  • your date of birth; and
  • a cheque or postal order for £2 made payable to the credit reference agency.
You should keep a copy of your letter and you may want to send it by recorded delivery. The credit reference agency has 7 working days to send you your file after receiving your letter and fee. Sometimes the credit reference agencies need more information from you before they can send you your file. For example, they may need proof of your name and address from a utility bill or bank statement. This is important to make sure that no one else gets your file by mistake or to check that no one else has fraudulently applied for your credit reference file. The agencies do not have to send you your file until they get this information.

The addresses of the credit reference agencies are:

    Isn't this already a sticky? I've always ordered mine online and get them about a week later - saves the price of a stamp :p

    Why not order it on-line. I belive Equifax not present it on line whereas Experian send it through the post. Will save time over snail mail.
  • What is 7 days? Do it online yea, but then you have to remember to cancel etc - plus not everyone has a debit/credit card!

    Anyone that wants to see their record the same day, simply applies online otherwise it is always useful to have the details to hand of where to send the £2.

    To get statutory Experien report via snail mail.

    I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding here.
    Exquifax give their statutory report on-line for £2.
    This isn't the same as the free trial so nothing to cancel.
    Yes you're right though, you can't get it on-line if you can't pay your £2 on-line.
    But for people that can, it's quicker than going by snal mail.

    You can only get the statutory report on-line with Equifax and if you have a card.
    Experian is by post only.
    Of course there are more expensive services available and free trials, but some people have had difficulty cancelling the trials.
