Been lurking here for a bit -

I had an RBS classic credit card with a limit of £4600, I tried to increase my limit via the card centre, they refused, however the branch processed another card application that was accepted with a limit of £2200! I ran both cards for over a year well, even reducing the balance on both to zero at one point! However, I must have had a brain freeze cuz I applied online for another, I was accepted online, even received the card with a limit of £2400, 2 weeks later they wrote to me cancelling ALL 3 of my cards! They still send me monthly statements, and I still pay the min amount each month, they report to CRA's the 'okay payment status' on the original 2 cards, the 3rd card simply states 'settled'.

Anyone care to comment on why they cancelled all 3 (I can guess). BTW I have a current account with them, smallish o/d £100, have credited my salary each month (£3K). They still call me now and then from the branch to 'offer' a loan etc, I never accept as I know the outcome. I had a bonus payment from work credit my current a/c, they called me to try and open a savings account, the dumb biatch from the branch said that it was because my money wasn't safe in the current account, better off in the saving a/c (she didn't mention anything about her sales commission for opening the savings account).

You can have 4 cards (maybe 5) with RBS so this explains why they allowed you to have several (just not the same branded cards).

They would have received negative data from the CRA's i'd assume, but without seeing i'd not know. That is what i'd be looking at if I was you, but also write back and ask them why!

Explain you've always paid etc - see what they say?

I have had an 'interesting' credit history, currently 4 defaults, most recent one was in March 2006, though I have plenty of greens (paid off my car loan, over £12k over 4 years). I had a ccj around this time, though it's since been set aside. I did ask them for an explanation, but never had a reply, merely a standard subject access type reply with statements etc.

Around the time of the cancellation I was also telling Tessera Credit Services to sod off chasing me for a £10k NatWest card with no CCA, they sent me a 'we're closing our files' letter and they may have lobbed a grenade at me (by way of a note to RBS card services).

I now have a Crap 1 card (limit £1500, balance £0) and a Vanquis card (limit £500, balance £0). Only ever used the Vanquis card once, to buy lunch when on the island of Capri, probably not a typical Vanquis customer. I hate it when they send blank credit card cheques when I have told them not to, very cynical 2 weeks before Christmas, but typical from them I suppose. I only need the card for car hire etc.
  • I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this. I have a RBS Royalties Gold Account with a visa debit card. I have tried to use this a few times at 'pay at pump' petrol stations but always decline the card. I thought this type of card would be ok to use as always have a balance of £500 or more in this account.

    Any ideas?

If it is Blue then it is full auth and will not work at Pay at Pump, or on planes or trains..... it needs a live connection to authorise the payment, I assume it has no CGC?

Phew, we done a smash-and-grab today eh mate? :p

Balance means nada if it is a full auth card. The purple one is the unlocked one that doesnt need authority before accepting payment.

  • Its the blue one mate. Got the cheque book but no CGC might phone them and ask for the other card.

Smash and grab is right mate. Rather that than lose 3 points to them.

Loving the other thread your on here that has 2 chumps thinking they know what they are talking about on the unenforceable issue :)
