I suppose good Money Savers should be grateful for how much this stopped us spending.
Seriously, though, infuriating though it was for buyers, what happens for sellers in this situation? Do they have any right to redress against eBay? It has failed to provide for them the service it contracted to give them and many will have incurred serious losses.
If I had listed a £1.000 item and it sold to somebody who made a 99p marker bid on it because nobody else was then able to find it and bid on it, as a result of eBay being down for the crucial last few hours of the auction, I'd be spitting blood and looking for compensation.
Can eBay get away with it by just telling such people that they should have put a reserve price on it?
And what about people who did put a reserve price on their item and now get charged by eBay as though it had sold at that price, after having been deprived of the chance for other people to bid on it?
Will eBay just be able to walk away from this as though nothing had happened?
And how, and upon what basis, can people be compensated?
Sorting out, on a case-by-case basis, ten million aggrieved buyers and sellers worldwide would be a nightmare and take months, if not years. The administration costs of doing so would itself be vast.
So, what will happen as a result of this?
soolin,
It's been absolutely fine here all evening, I'm using Virgin as my ISP and Firefox if that makes a difference?

It's a pity that you didn't post that last night when it did.
You left worried people with the confusing belief that the problem was not universal and that maybe there was a cure for it that they could effect. Many will have wasted a lot of time trying.
Waiting ten hours to clarify the position, after your earlier posting, was irresponsible and highly misleading to others.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

But lots of other people posted in the meantime to say they were having the problem, and eBay themselves made announcements about it, so it's not up to soolin to reassure people! It's a pity that you didn't post that last night when it did.

You miss my point. Which was entirely valid and clearly expressed.

Your point was you accussed Soolin of being Irresponsible because she didn't keep you updated. I don't really think thats very valid just plain silly really. Should I keep you updated of all my problems with ebay as well. I can give you hourly updates if you want. You miss my point. Which was entirely valid and clearly expressed.0 -
