Tuning upstairs freeview TV to downstairs Sky Box

Hi hope this is in the correct place,
We have Sky Tv downstairs which we use on a HD ready TV (no built in freeview, do not have terrestial tuned in either).
Our house ariel comes from the roof, into the sky box and then up to our bedroom which does have built in freeview. The free view and terrestrial channels look lovely on the upstairs TV.
We have attempted to tune our upstairs TV so we can watch the same channel as the sky box we can get it but the picture is really bad and snowy.
What are we doing wrong?

I think you must be confused, as you can't get a signal from an aerial into a Sky box! Sky comes from a satellite dish.
Also I would be surprised to find an HD Ready TV that does not have a Freeview tuner built in (except for a for a few very expensive 'screen only' TV's).
You can feed the same TV with an aerial input and a satellite input, but you need two separate feeds into the TV, the former into a TV with a Freeview tuner or via a Freeview box, the latter via a Sky box.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
You are obviously getting a decent RF output from the Sky box to your upstairs room to give you Freeview and analogue channels. Included with these signals from the RF out from the Sky box is the program selected on the Sky box but converted to RF. If you select an unused "Analogue" channel on the upstairs TV and select the program guide on the Sky box (simply to give you a recognisable Sky output) then tune the analogue channel upstairs untill you find the program guide. Of course, you must have an analogue tuner in the upstairs TV to be able to do this.
Another option if you do have analogue, is to use a magic eye. You can then control the Sky box from upstairs too, all for around £15. If you want more info on it PM me.0 -
Hiya,
The downstairs one doesn't have a built in freeview tuner. http://www.intekx.com/product_info.php?products_id=103
Yes sorry I did get confused about the ariel part, I meant satalite (I'm a divvy sometimes). My point was the signal for the upstairs TV is going through the Skybox. The freeview and terrestrial upstairs look great but the Sky channels when we try tune it in looks really bad. It just doesn't make sense why?
We tried to tune sky via analoge upstairs and although we can see the picture the quality is awful.
Our friend who has done the same will be visiting later to see if he can figure out what is happening as on paper it all should owrk.
Magic eye is something we are considering hence us attemping to tune in the sky signal. i will bear your invitation in mind.

Have you tried changing the RF frequency on the Sky box from the default. Often works.0

I have a plug-in booster and the cable from the sky box goes into this and then the cables go from the booster box to our tv in our bedroom and the second tv in our dining room. This way we can watch whatever is on Sky in the dining room and the bedroom too. So a booster could possibly stop your snowy picture.
The tv in our dining room, although small, also has freeview on it and, despite not being directly connected to the outside aerial receives the freeview signal perfectly. Im sure its the booster that is helping with this.
As someone else said though, if you had a magic eye you could get your sky channels and also turn it over from your 2nd room. I have a Sky Gnome that I can carry about if I want to turn the Sky over from another room.0 -

So are you saying that a cable from the RF 2 output socket of a sky box will carry tv aerial pictures as well as sky pictures in the one cable?0 -

After your short and sweet post I googled this and now receive lovely pictures via UHF channel 28..granada region,.
We'll be looking into magic eye or similar at some point in the future.
Thanks to all of you :T:T:T:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

Can you not plug your Tv Aerial into the Sky Box, then out of the Sky Box to the upstairs bedroom.
This would enable Sky to be watched upstairs, plus freeview.
I then ask, what cable did you use. I hope not that £1 shop special you get. Maplins had some nice screened satellite cable in a 20mtr bundle for £12. If it was decent cable, then maybe check the cable connections you have made.
If they are ok, then move the new tv into the front room, plug directly into tv aerial, and confirm that the tv is working ok. If its working ok, and setup ok as per downstairs, move upstairs and try again.
