Compared to the ones we have that just have the band at the back and dont cover that low down the head.

The only reason we know this is becouse the middle son has hyperglousuos???? (water on the brain) a bigger head so we had to find a helmet to fit him.Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -

44 tonnes of artic hitting you at 56-mph would worry most people.
I was always told if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing...so I'm saying nothing about you.

I have a crash hat but I don't always wear it. My route to work is entirely cycle track away from the road so I dont bother with the crash helmet - to be honest I rarely anyone else on the route wearing a helmet either.
If I'm cycling on the road I do wear my helmet but I'm not sure it makes me any safer. On of my mates fell off his mountain bike, he was wearing a helmet but unfortunately he landed on his face, knocked himself out and ended up with a nasty concussion.0 -
Cycle helmets are only effective in relatively low speed collisions, apparently. There was a cycling fatality in Bristol recently where a man was hit by a van, he had massive head injuries despite wearing a helmet and died in hospital.
I've fallen off my bike and hit my head twice - the first time I wasn't wearing a helmet, the second time I was. On both occasions I had a raging headache for days, but obviously I don't know how much worse the effects from the second injury could have been if I wasn't wearing the helmet (I hit the side of my head when I fell and I think the point of impact was below the helmet).
I don't think helmets should be made compulsory as it will put a lot of people off cycling. I believe it should be left to personal choice - I chose to wear one, but equally I would like to be able to not wear one if I felt like it.0 -
The namby pamby brigade will be wanting pedestrians to wear helmets next.;)Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.0

I think they should be forced to take a test before they are allowed out on the pavements!
I got injured once by a pedestrian who stepped backwards into my path.0 -

Some pedestrians are dangerous.:eek:Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.0 -
It's worth pointing out that if you wear a helmet you are more likely to be hit by another vehicle but the consequences if you hit your head are likely to be less severe.
If you wear a helmet, lycra etc then cars pass closer than if you have no helmet and are wearing 'civvies'. Also, if you wear a helmet you are more inclined to take more risks.
BTW, I ride about 10,000kms/year in Aus where bike helmets are compulsory. I usually wear one when riding in the UK.0 -

Good plan, keep him from doing something that millions of people enjoy every week, ensuring he gets less fit over time.
More children are killed crossing the road while walking, than are killed while cycling. Think on.0 -

That's probably because (a) more children walk than cycle (b) many parents are like niall24 and make their children wear helmets when they cycle.
Suggesting that niall24 is wrong in insisting upon her son wearing a helmet when he cycles is a bit beyond the pale, don't you think? Are you a parent? Would you rather your child was less fit and alive, or cycled and had his head crushed in a collision with a car?0
