just thought I would join this thread. A bit late I know, but better late than never :)

I am in Dorset and have found it virtually impossible to make good friends here. I have made new friends but then life takes over and we never really get to the 'proper' friendship stage so then we drift apart and stop contact (with the exception of my best friend down here who I've known for about 6 years). All my other friends live up north and I hardly ever see them any more as we all have kids now and not much money!.

I'm really stumpted as to how to make some new friends here. I dont know how to go about meeting new people. I would love a night at the pub, or to be able to go to the cinema to watch a girly film. :(

    Any ideas?

I've finished work for the year! hurrah! :j :j

I hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas. Here's to a happy, healthy new year in which we all prosper and hopefully make a new friend.

I made one new friend this year which resulted in meeting lots of other new friends.

Just one new friend.... thats all it takes.

    Take Care

Thought I would add my name to the list, I live in mid Cornwall.
I am single, as of last Friday, with no friends. Its so hard to go out and meet people as I am far too self concious and nervous to go on my own but without meeting people I will never have anyone to go out with!! One hell of a vicious circle.
I am 29 and really feel the need to change this, just one or two friends to be able to talk to and meet for coffee would change my whole outlook on life.
Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!
:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!

    Hi Tigerlily,

Welcome to the thread. Christmas is a great time to make new friends. How about just popping to a neighbours xmas eve with some mince pies?
My one friend was a new neighbour who knocked on my door when i first moved in.

How about starting an evening class in the new Year? I did a spanish course a few years ago, and although i didnt make any lasting friends it did boost my confidence a bit with meeting new people.

It is very hard making new friends i think. Especially if you are single and dont have children. (no other mums to chat to at gates etc)

I'm only 31 and although i already had a few good friends i hardly saw them so making new friends this year has been great. I go to the local pub once a week for the quiz, and we go out now and again at the weekends to see a film or go to a club.

    Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestions, I suffer from panic attacks etc so going out full stop is hard at the moment in particular. I live in a small village with a more older population so meeting people my own age is hard.

I wish I could be content with internet friends, but I cant, I don't have children or anything to occupy my time either. Its just work, home, work, home, etc etc.
