Thanks Donnie - but is that a piece of hardware that would involve a screwdriver ???............ that would be way out of my comfort zone!! Would rather wait for Nero than meddle with the inners of my harddrive.

  • The transcoding is extrememly processor intensive. I use AVI2DVD and this takes a couple of hours per AVI.

The quality of the eventual DVD is also dependent of the number of passes the program makes of the source material. The more passes equals better quality but longer transcoding time.

You would be surprised at how easy it is to fit. Should take you about ten minutes including removing panels etc. Not much room for error.

Note: hard drives look like this; opening them generally results in irreparable damage. The box surrounding the hardware that makes up a personal computer is called a case.

Might be worthwhile seeing if your computers infected?

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Post the log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

Super aliEnRIK to the rescue. I would try this advice out first he has a very good point.
A graphics card will not make much difference to the performance if any to be honest and your PC might not handle a new card depending on your PCs motherboard.
Media work is always processor intensive, the DVD will effect it a bit too but even at realtime data transfer the drive would take 90mins.
If you click on the start button or windows icon on the start bar. Assuming you have Vista type DXdiag in the programs box or in the run option in XP then press return. Let us know the Processor specs and memory on the first tab and the graphics family details on the second tab. It will give an idea on the system specs.

Graphics was mentioned before.; VIA UniChrome Pro.... So now Motherboard and RAM details would be useful.
A decent graphics card can and will take some of the load from the CPU, especially if RAM is low and the machine is in use whilst processing the video.

In other words it has an onboard graphics chipset and possibly doesn't have a slot for graphics expansion, not to mention it swallows up system memory probably un-necessarily. More memory and a faster processor would out weigh a graphics card for video work easily. Unless of course your talking about getting optimised real time rendering cards like a Matrox or Quadro, how many hundreds of punds are they?!!
Perfect example of this is in CustomPC magazine this month. They bold 2 PCs for £500 one for gaming with a great graphics card and the other with a great processor. The Gaming rig was well and truely demolished in the media comparisons.
