Thanks for the reply Soolin, especially such a comprehensive one.
Maybe I should look in ebay more often, maybe even register. I've probably read too much of the negative side of it and haven't given the place a chance. But the negative side is the one most likely to be discussed so I suppose it's understandable that people lose trust in it.
Now that I've read a bit more about it from people like yourself, I realise it's all about understanding the pitfalls and avoiding them. And, like you said, learn about how the sellers work. I've probably lost myself in all the jargon about BIN's and positive and negative feedback. It's not as straightforward as it seems from a beginners point of view.
It might be an idea for me to actually bid on an item, see how it goes, and then give it another chance. But I should say that without reading the replies made by yourself and others, I wouldn't have known what to look out for, even to the point of not even looking at a seller's feedback.
As for the payment side of things, (always something that's baffled me - probably because I haven't bought or sold yet) it looks like there's some sort of regulations in place to protect both buyers and sellers.
I'll have a wander over there and see what's what. Learn a bit more of the jargon
Thanks again for the reply.0 -
Hi JP!! I too am on the lookout for things to sell as have started to get a bit of an ebayer bug - I've got something listed at the moment and am trying to sell it for more than i bought it for (thats the general idea i know!) in an ideal world I'd love to tell you what it is so that we could both get rich but lots of people reading these threads and stuff would mean that we would all try and sell things and end up competing against each other! That would mean that I could lose out on sales etc etc.... shame really, only thing that I can say is that it pays to watch out for items that are 'local collection only' and if you are in that local area you can sometimes pick up a bargain!! I bought a buggy for £30 cash and they were selling on ebay for £100+ plus postage!! I actually needed it so not made a profit but do like to keep my eyes open!
Irl tell you what, we should have a 'swapsies' board - i'll tell you mine if you tell me yours! lol!Official DFW Nerd 2100
