I actually enjoying trawling through carboots etc to find bargains! although Raggy shops are a bit smelly! I agree! as for a big thing to get into selling....I still have no idea! or time....or space....or money!!! I bought a coffee pot & sugar bowl for £3.95 in a raggy shop and sold it for £156 - just the coffee pot! sugar bowl later sold for £10 ...not bad....
As for bragging and calling people unlucky suckers! I wouldn't be so ****y! I would just be happy that I can get by making money with as little effort as poss! .....in the meantime the rest of us ....look out for these watches and sting the "lucky Sucker!!" ..................hey just kidding!!!Angel

And probably why people like myself are wary of eBay ...
I'd love to look through that place and know it's ok. But things like that knock my trust back a bit.
Shame really because I know there's some good traders there. Oh well ....0 -

You also need to find something that you enjoy selling and have an interest in, that's the way to make real money.
For example, I sold a very unusual product tonight and trebled my money, so I'm off to get hold of a couple more tomorrow!
Not saying what it is or where I got it either!!!
I'm sorry but this is the problem - everyone is so selfish as to where they get there products - its like dog eat dog lol0 -
Absolutely, that's what competition is all about!
I stood in the post office just before Christmas with another regular ebayer, she was telling me that she has given up her job as she makes more on ebay than she ever did in an office.
We see each other all the time yet I would never ask what she sells nor would she offer that information. That's how it works, I wouldn't expect it to be otherwise.

Soolin?
(And I know there's other users that speak up for EBay as much as you do - gary something?) but if you've lost trust in the place, as a buyer (not me btw - someone bid for something for my other half and it went pear-shaped) where does someone like me look to gain trust in someone on EBay?
Does that make sense?
Where do people start? As an a grade beginner?0 -

I don't know how a person can gain trust in ebay, maybe i have just been lucky and have dealt with some really great buyers and sellers. I do tend towards caution though when buying and am really amazed to see people bidding on low feedback sellers, or where sellers don't quote p and p prices.
I was looking at some auctions yesterday, newly registered sellers with tickets to major concerts. Auction terms state that tickets will be sent as soon as received from promoters probably in a couple of months time. They even claim to be safe because they take paypal. To me that screams 'problem'..after 30 days you cannot claim a chargeback from paypal so you lose any protection. You are basically giving your money to a bloke in the street who promises to put the tickets through your door in a few weeks. Yet, looking again later I see they are getting bids, I don't understand it.
If you are looking to buy check the feedback, don't just look at the percentage. If there are negs are they recent, have they suddenly had delivery problems or did they just pick up a couple of negs when they started for minor problems? Does the seller 'feel' right, has he/she been selling 99p items for three weeks and now suddenly has 12 pentium 4 PCs for sale with stock photos?
Use your credit card via paypal to pay, you can harrass the CC company then if you do have problems. Never bid on something that cannot be delivered withion the 30 day timeframe, and if you do bid on something and haven't got it within 26 days start the paypal chargeback regardless.
Selling is easier, on my smaller items anyone can bid. I just had a buyer with 94% feedback and 2 recent negs for non payment buy something and send me payment within days. On my larger ticket items I do put a disclaimer saying that bidders with less than 3 positive feedback need to e mail me first before bidding otherwise I will remove their bid. What I actually do is if they bid I e mail them and ask a minor question about payment methods or such like. If they respond in a timely fashion I leave their bid, if they don't, then i pull it.
I also protect myself my making sure all my items are sent out with either a proof of postage for smaller items, or recorded/special delivery for more valuable items. It is my responsibility as a seller to make sure the item gets to them, if it is lost on the way I claim from the PO.
Ebay for me is just like any other venue, I would not buy electrical items from one of those 'temporary' auction type places in the high street and I would not buy on ebay from a seller without some history.

I found a good cheap place is the household clearence auctions, they do them in Maidstone, Kent for example every thursday
you often get boxes of stuff for a £1 , some is crap but you always get stuff like toasters etc in there, or you can bid on individual items which are often brand new at bargain prices !!
see you Thursday ....lolEx forum ambassador
