I went the Argos route and got a Thomson. Followed various useful forum guides out there, and installed a new fan, repositioned the hdd.. now it runs quietly, smoothly, and superb at double recordings. I'll update the hdd next, and have already installed software on my pc to access the video recordings to burn onto dvd.
Yes, the prices are falling, but this was still a bargain. especially as half of it was paid for through the amex-nectar point offer :)

Do any of the boxes come with series link, like you get on sky +, thinking of downgrading.

    Thanks in advance

Read right to the bottom and you will discover what I already said, i.e. that after the software was finally updated to 1.6 it is a really good unit and excellent value for money. I've had mine 6 months and now wouldn't be without it. In fact I am thinking of buying a second one for the other room (his 'n; hers!).

I have a Panasonic TV with built-in Freeview. If I plug this box in to my TV will it overide the built-in Freeview tuner??

    Thanks

How do you mean? It means you will have a Freeview tuner in your TV and 2 in your PVR. You can watch whichever you want. The PVR will record from it's own Freeview tuner... not the TV one... so you can watch any Freeview you want on the TV whilst the PVR is recording from your other tuner. You choose to watch the Freeview tuner from the PVR by using the AV button on your TV remote to select the AV channel your PVR is plugged into.

You must be one of the lucky ones then as mine never worked correctly and so we took it back and got the Humax one which so far has been brill!

Picked one up today - seems pretty good tuned in and got a good picture with ease.

However little bit noisy and more woryingly I dont see any sign of the 3 year guarantee advertised in the leaflet

    anyone else noticed this?

In what way do you find it noisy? AFAIK these units are amongst the quietest PVR's there are.

Regarding the guarantee this appears to have only been documented on the Aldi leaflet and website advertising.
