Got the Humax 160GB PVR, had it in since Monday but not really had a chance to play around with it properly. The recording two channels swung it for me, especially when we're out and we want to record two progs on the same time.

at the risk of invalidating the warranty, can you upgrade the hard disk?

this one looks good - but is there such a thing as a pvr with a top-up tv slot? I don't think I could live without Eurosport!

AFAIK I am not aware of any that come with the slot. But several have the option to install a CAM that allows you to add a topuptv card. The Humax 9200T and the Topfield can both do this.

I have the older Humax 8000T which does not have the facility but I am very impressed with my Humax box - so I would recommend them.

You can buy CAMS for about £35 -£40 (E.G. http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/index~modelcode~TUT-CAM.htm).

I think you can also get CAMs as part of a starter pack for a bit more if your not already subscribed to topuptv.

Guys - to upgrade hard disks and transfer to a DVDR (both of which can be done in ways) you should really go through the digitalspy forums which discuss this in detail, however don't be to put off by alot of moaning

I have the Humax box which is fitted with a USB port. Simply connect to your desktop/laptop and download using software provided with PVR. However there are a number of problems :-

    1. If the signal is poor and there are faults on the digital recording it may not transfer at all - sometimes you can do so but it takes a number of attempts.

    2. The transfer is very slow - only USB 1

    3. The transferred recording is not recognized by many editing applications - however VIDEOREDO PLus can be used to edit out adverts, correct faults in digital signal and automatically resave in a format that is recognised - I use Nerovision 3

    4. If your PVR is too far from your computer for standard usb (>5M) use an amplified USB extender, simplest is available from CPc (WWW.CPC.co.uk)

Anyone know if I can record a new program at the same time as watching an already recorded program on one of these Aldi Tevions??BTW I have the Humax 8000 and it's been excellent (apart from needing to power it off and on every few months as it loses itself)

I have a Sky+ box and regularly transfer programmes from the HDD to video - I'm assuming it will be similar for the DVD recorder. I guess it just depends how you plug everything together?
