    In post #14 you said...
    ...it was an internet purchase...
    Therefore, as Tim Deagan says...

If you ordered it on line then you are covered by distance selling regs.
Get back onto the vendors telling them you have changed your mind... you no longer want the mattress.
You will have to pay for return carriage, but that sounds like a small price to pay.

You have to be quick though... you only have seven working days, starting day after delivery, to cancel the deal.

I'd be happy to try help ..though i'm not sure how much use i'd be as i'm more brains than brawn..no good with stairs either so i'd only be much good for supervising! If it's impossible to bend the mattress enough, have you tried different angles.. on side..on end ..diagonally etc?

However I really think you should try get them to take it back.. just contact them and tell them it's impossible to get up the stairs. As others have said if it's an internet purchase you can use your rights under distance selling. Who did you buy it from? What do the terms & conditions say? Avoid any more damage to the packaging too - cover with dust sheets if you try getting it up the stairs again.

I'd take Tim's advice about the number of springs too and find a different mattress with less springs. We still need to hunt for a new bed ourselves but there's a bed shop in Deal i want to get to at some point that looks good.. if you get your money back on this one might be worth a visit (in marlborough road off St. Richard's road). There's another independent bed shop in broadstairs (think it's on queens road) i came across via internet search (not sure it's accessible for me as beds upstairs) -

thanks everyone, an update for you, we did in the end manage to ge the mattress upstairs. however OH has damaged his shoulder, we have smashed the light in the hall and i am off sick today with a migraine.

on the plus side, the bed is unbelievably comfy, it really is lovely, v deep too which means unfortunately none of the sheets now fit properly.

we managed it because of the kitchen worktop on the stairs, we laid that flat so that we could slide the mattress up but had a really hard time squashing the corner down as we got up the stairs. if we didnt have the worktop there waiting to be installed, i dont know how we would have done it.

its never coming back down again

we spend a third of our life in bed, so getting a good night's sleep is very important, remember to take the old mattress down the stairs before you lift the worktop up and DH does his ither should a mischief.:D:p

That's an incentive to never move house again. Or if you do sell it furnished.
