It will bend more easily if you can crease it. Try tightening a rope around the middle of it.
Our mattress is similar but it all works out in the end.0 -
Ever thought of moving in to a bungalow??0

well its still in the polythene although this has ripped in parts where we have tried to tug at it.
its so frustrating because i ordered a specially extra firm one with 4000 sprung pockets to provide lots of support. what i didnt know is that this would make it exceptionally heavy and stiff
as we get it up to the stairs it gets stuck where the top is too tall, it only needs to squash down a few inches and i reckon we could do it, but the more we push down, the more it gets wedged into the stair underneath.
last night we tried with car straps to make it bend, it didnt really work but luckily enough we currently also have a kitchen worktop lying on the stairs so are going to put that flat and make a slide out of it to slide the mattress up and then squash the top bit under the ceiling.
yes, we have also damaged the lights in the hallway, doh!
things is OH was then shouting at me about why I bought a mattress that we cant get up the stairs, I mean as if Im going to know this, it was an internet purchase and in the description it didnt say 'you wont be able to get this up your stairs'....0 -
If you really can't manage it, call your local removals firm - for a fee they'll be happy to send you a couple of blokes who have lots and lots of experience in shifting household goods through tight fits..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Do you have a window that could be removed easily?0
-
no we dont have a window we can remove and even if we could, they are not big enough to get a mattress through, plus get it up a ladder
good idea about the removals firm thing, we will try this after the kitchen worktop slide idea0 -
Just make sure you don't get the mattress and the worktop stuck halfway up the stairs .................

Where do you live? there's lots of people with ideas on here. Maybe enough of us could come round and help you out for the cost of a cup of PG Tips? (Dad, do you know the piano's on my foot? No son, you hum it and I'll play it!) I used to work for a removal firm a very long time ago, and I never came across a mattress that wouldn't go upstairs. By the way, they come down the stairs a whole lot easier than they go up.0

That Tim guy will be here soon to tell you off about your mattress choice!
Seriously though, good luck...0 -

If you ordered it on line then you are covered by distance selling regs. If not try and phone the shop and explain the problem. If they won't exchange it, then name and shame them.
4000 pocket springs is far too many, anit it is this that is causing the problem. I normally recommend between 1000 and 1800 springs in a king size mattress. More than that is just a gimmick that you won't get any benefit from. So try to exchange it for one with between 1000 and 1800 springs, otherwise you risk damaging the very small and weak springs.0
