So are you and Mchale saying that a 4 x 4 eg a Range Rover etc is not a car?
Can you or Mchale advise us which Insurer it is that has this supposed exclusion for 4 x 4 cars under the D.O.C extension?
It was Hastings Direct about 4/5 years ago, when I rang CS to check coverANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -
I'm fairly sure most comprehensive policies that include any vehicle 3rd party specifically exclude driving a spouse's/partner's car from this. Whether you would fall into this category or not I am not sure.
Never heard of that one and it certainly isn't stated in my insurance document. Just says that I am allowed to drive a car not belonging or hired to me with the car owners permision. Cover is only 3rd party though.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -
Yours is unusual. The usual certificate wording is along the lines of "policyholder may also drive a car not belonging to or hired/leased to them or their partner".0

Did you know you were uninsured whilst driving? If you did you deserve everything that comes your way. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0

No, I assumed I was covered by both mine and her policy being fully comp. My knowledge of car insurance is very hazy (hence me asking the question in the beginning, to check where I stood) and it's obviously something I'll have to look into in more detail in the future. It look like naming her as a driver (and vice versa) is the way forward.
Thanks to everyone who has taken time to respond to my post. You've all been very helpful.0 -

If you have not received the NIP form in 14 days you can not be done for the offence (or it was a dummy sight)

As has been said though, Your fault, own up.
Agree and agree. And just to add that I personally think you're a bit of a nob as you obviously went out knowing that you were likely uninsured and did not think of the consequences. Everyone crashes at some point and if you had hit someone seriously injuring them for life they would have to raise the money themselves for life-long care as the government have caps on MIB payouts.
