Eh? So what would an People Carrier or Estate be classed as?
AFAIK a 4x4 is a type of car with same car tax classification requiring a car licence to drive it.
And every 4x4 I've owned (3 so far) has been covered by ... guess what?
Yup, CAR insurance!
Phone your insurance and check the DOV wording, you might be suprised like I was, my cover went from drive any "vehicle" to drive any "car" and when I checked I was not covered 3 party !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -
It will say "Private Car" it will not exclude 4 x 4 private cars0
-
They generally say Private Car but some say Motor Car or just Car, either way this would not exclude you driving a 4 x 4 car under this section of the policy0
-
More and more insurers however are dropping this third party any vehicle cover. I know I am not covered.0

OP run away not surprised!
He's gunna be running a marathon when his missis finds out that he been speeding in her car and he wants to her to take the penalty for it.....
couldnt coment on wording of the dov cover but my point would be that would this guys missis under her insurance only be covered to drive 4x4's not cars under DOV cover in the policy? as she has insured a 4x4? some insurers are putting in the DOV as an optional extra at a cost!0 -

So are you and Mchale saying that a 4 x 4 eg a Range Rover etc is not a car?
Can you or Mchale advise us which Insurer it is that has this supposed exclusion for 4 x 4 cars under the D.O.C extension?0 -
I think you will find it usually states "motor car", as I say phone your Ins Com and ask if your covered driving a 4x4 under the DOV terms
Some of the dodgy info that some people post on these forums is incredible. Good for a laugh though.
A four wheel drive vehicle is no longer a motor vehicle eh?
I think you have either misunderstood or someone was winding you up

We're both fully comp but I'm not a named driver on her insurance policy so, basically, can I come clean and take the hit regarding fine and points or do I have to pretend that it was her driving, to avoid any insurance complications?
I'd appreciate any help or advice, before the dreaded envelope drops on her doormat. Thanks.
Getting flashed does not automatically mean a ticket, the odds vary from 1in8 to 1in12 depending on area as many cameras are either dummy boxes or have a rotation schedule with the camera.
If you have not received the NIP form in 14 days you can not be done for the offence (or it was a dummy sight)
google pepipoo.com they can tell you exactly what to do with out pre judging you
I would not inform the insurance company until the day points are awarded to my license, as even if you go to court there are some ways to fight it.0 -

I think Mchale must be getting confused with those new Landrover Discovery 4x4 lorries and Range Rover motorbikes
