If you are going to go ahead with this madness then Try A-Plan Insurance

http://www.aplan.co.uk/ Tell them that you heard about them on the BMWLAND forums and they may offer you a discount.

18 yr old son with 16 months experience .. needs fully comp on a bmw 318ci coupe , 6 yrs old value £10k.

putting the mother & father on as well to help keep premium down.

Checked the first handful of best websites ... and best deal from Norwich Union at about £2450 !!!.. AAARRRGGGGHHHHH !!

In fairness we know first year for young lads is very dear , but does anyone have any knowledge or experience of any other insurers worth checking out ??

    thanks,

My first car was a BMW, fairly new, admitidly I am a female, and 23 at the time. (It was the family car and I was not going to pay out for a second car, Mr is older than me and more than capable of driving it, and judging if I was)

Admiral are very reasonable, quote me over 1500 less than most comanies :)

I wonder how old the youngest racing driver was?

there are numerous youngster competing at various levels of racing ....but as soon as your insurance company see your occupation is a sports professional (any sport!), except the premium to double.

just for info,.... after spending 5 hours checking everyone /everywhere !! ..
with a £1000 excess ... RAC came out cheapest at £2121.

happy with high excess on both kids' policies .. i wouldn't claim for anything that was a few hundred quid.

next best NU at £2450 ..(they now own RAC!) .. presumably they're having a push on rac ?

most quotes well over £3k .. and over £4k !

Couple of "specialist companies" said i wouldn't crack £3k.

then went on to organise breakdown cover .. never knew it was dependant on driver/ insurance etc ! .

NU breakdown quoted £87 for recovery plus best package but i 've gone with Green Flag at £89.. but less £20 quidco.

I have found Endsleigh and Egg to be very competitive on higher insurance cars for young drivers.

Egg also offer good breakdown cover too.

  • garf ... i tried egg ... were £800 too high.

endsleigh .. who've been excellent on our 18 year old daughters yaris insurance for 3 years now (through zurich) ....
i went through it all with them .. and to my amazement their response was that there was not one of their 31 providers prepared to quote for 18 yr old in a bmw .
Think they were as suprised as i was !!
  • garf , just looked at egg breakdown ..........out of interest.

you can only get it "on the back of" taking out an insurance policy with egg..

it is green flag .. and reads "from £69.30 " . ( fortunately we got £69 nett with green flag ! )

undoubtedly a very fair .. and convenient deal for people taking out egg insurance.
