I'm just very pleased that this country finally did something for Poland after allegedly going to war in 1939 over their loss of freedom and then sitting by when the Russians moved in for 45 years. Some of the debt repaid, if you like.

    Nice post.

If you know your history. Then you would know that Germany and Russia had agreed to carve up Poland prior to the outbreak of WW2.

Poland is the only EU country not to have gone into recession. Says a lot for there money management.

According to my Polish friend they did not expect (or deserve) to be abandoned by the west and left to the mercy of the Russians  BTW what has an agreement between Russia and Germany got to do with it:confused:

Um........ firstly we had the disaster of Dunkirk.

Secondly how could we have directly helped Poland at the end of the war?

The greater concern would have been the Russians invading even more of Europe. The line was drawn in Germany not on the Polish border.

If the Japs hadn't of bombed Pearl Harbour, the US may not joined the war. Even then the battle of Medway was a turning point.

    So many if's.

You stated that Russia and Germany had agreed to carve up Poland prior to WWII as if they having done so meant that Britain had no choice in what happened to Poland at the end of WWII.

I pointed out that Germany and Russia making a decision on Poland before WWII had little to do with what Britain decided to do at the end of WWII.

In fact I think StevieJ was making the same point above...
