I was 12 and 4months, and I had been nagging to get my ears pierced for ages, and thats what I was given as a present, now that I was starting to be a woman, I had the responsibility to choose a bit more what to do with my body.Crys (26)

My mother and I never had 'the chat' -thank goodness. I can remember my middle sister and her friends ragging me and asking if I knew what periods were. "Of course" I said " Periods are what you study in History!" - never lived that one down!!
I went to boarding school but in the holidays Mum would always drag us out shopping and call out in her loudest voice in a crowded Boots in Plymouth - "How many boxes of Tampax will you girls need?" :eek:Oh let me just haemorrage to death please!!!:rotfl:
Always talked openily to DD1 about what would happen and where to find the supplies. Used to pack a couple in her stuff when she went to Dad's.
She told me the day she started and asked me not to tell anyone so I didn't. I bought her some earrings though and to this day I buy her exactly the towels she asks for even though I use the cheapest possible!! Don't mind though - she just gets on with it. Funnily enough our periods start at exactly the same time now and I always know cos she's a real moo 2-3 days before!!One life.0 -
Blimey, I was 13 and had been told nothing. I had looked at some books though (thank goodness). Having to tell my mother was one of the most embarrasing moments of my life. She is very strange about anything bodily related. :-S
She had some pads handy but then I had to ask her every month when I needed some more. So continued embarrasment there...
I was also told it was nothing to make a fuss about and women's problems (i.e pain) was all in their minds. Very helpful each month when the pain was so bad it would make me faint.

Oh, and my mum wrote P-Due every 28 days in her diary, goodness knows why. I've never had the heart to tell her my periods have NEVER followed a 28 day cycle!!0

She always had pads and tampax in the house for her obv so I just used them, I was quite late, I was 14 when I started.
The same for me, I was earlier though. Can't believe it really. I have had problems with my periods since day one (just realised it was over 25 years ago ) pain, irratic, very heavy, more pain etc I was just left to get on with it. Funnily enough it was explained how to deal with stained underware, a bucket & salt were always kept in the bathroom usually with somebodies knickers soaking in them.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I was 10 I think - it was a Sunday morning and I went to the bathroom, saw the blood and called out 'Maaaaaam!' she knew instantly and began running round the house in a flap... she went up to the local newsagent and bought me a cheap pack of rubbish towels and said 'they were the best I could do, you'll have to wait until tomorrow and I'll get you better ones!'
I think the first proper pack she bought me were Kotex, but she didnt really do anything apart from saying 'I dont want you using tampons!' Although still 19 years later - I still cant use tampons, find them too fiddly and uncomfortable - but I think she knows Ive lost my virginity now :rotfl:*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
I looove tampons. I didn't use them till I was about 16 but I couldn't live without them.

That is the point; if they had put a woman on the moon they would have sorted it before!!!!:rotfl:I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Hi all,
Well i started my periods on my 9th birthday it was horrible and extremely painful. My birthday was never a big thing what with it being 3 days after xmas it was generally ignored .Coming for a very big family i knew exactly what to do.you didn't talk about periods but you just knew.
My mum just said you've got blood on your pj's get a shower, there in the drawer of the wardrobe, the pads were like bricks.from then on i used my pocket money to but nice towels with wings. I was in agony, couldn't walk it was horrible. After showing and sorting myself out i went and crawled on the sofa, and watched cartoons crying to myself. My mum then fed me rum so basically i was drunk that day. This went for about a week then stopped and started again on the first day back at school.
My periods are still terrible to this day and i'm on for about 15 days of the month, luckily my cousins all came to me for advice and i was nice about it e.g choc and nice towels.More horrifying for me was at school when during the sex ed class the teachers asked me to tell everyone about periods. Lets just say i refused to go to school for a week.:eek:0
