DD just became a young woman.
We have talked about it before, but she wasn't keen to talk yesterday.
I'm just wondering what your mums did for you at the time that made you feel better?

    Aww bless her!

I can't honestly think of anything my Mum did for me?

I do remember though, telling her I had started and all we had in the house was a huge mesh covered pad she used for over her stitches when she had her gallstones out. (It was a new one, not one she had used lol!) She only used Tampax you see.

Oh and because I was upset, my Dad started singing "Big girls don't cry" to me.

I hated my parents that day.

My daughter is 11 and has pads in her room ready for her and I'd like to think that when she starts, that we could have a girlie day together, shopping (or window shopping depending on finances) and have some lunch and maybe go to the cinema.

Oh you've changed the OP lol! Ah well! x

lol my mum is so old fasioned she didnt even give me the talk i was 10 when mine started and i screamed the house down cos i was bleeding and didnt know why!!

My mum just came up and told me i wasnt a little girl anymore and gave me some pads and told me where to put them (i got the talk about two weeks later in school)

But every month after that i would find a pack of pads and a big bar of chocolate in my bedroom lol
There's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

Just added a do in my title which didn't make sense...

My mum didn't really say much, but handed me some horrid plastic knickers to wear at night... (fortunately, I don't even think they exist these days).
I have shown her where all my gear is kept, and suggested she takes calpol if in pain. Poor thing feels a little awkward. She didn't tell OH but waited for me to be back from work.

I was marded a bit by my parents:o Or at least imo I was:D I got a hot water bottle, hot chocolate and cuddles off my Mum she never tried to get me to talk about it, just asked if I knew what I was doing with the towels and left me to it:) She knew I'd know the basics as I had all the sex talks in schools and she'd also told us about the birds and the bee's from about the age of 10, I suppose I was lucky that sex was never a taboo subject in our house, and if I did have any questions I had no probs in asking as I knew I'd probably get more sympathy:D Although I was never allowed anytime off school, no matter how much I moaned:rolleyes::rotfl:

Oh and not sure if it's relevant but I was 14 at the time...a late starter in comparison to my friends but very very grateful for it:) Didn't think so at the time though:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Bless her heart.

My mum did nothing, apart from nip to the chemist and buy some towels ~ you'd've thought she'd've had them in, but as another poster said, she only used tampons.

Anyhoo that was it, no big deal, yes you've started your periods, well done, here's some towels. End of.

I had various towels of different thicknesses, wings, no wings, coloured packaging, llittle handy tins etc. in ready for when they were needed, in fact I was so well prepared I've not bought any for 6 months, and we still have half a sack left in the airing cupboard!

DD wanted no fuss, but we do have brothers, though there were cuddles, her fave dinner etc., and plenty of telling daddy and bros they needed to be understanding of women hormones now. They tend to stick their fingers in their ears and sing loudly.

She has discovered, however, that if she really wants to get her own way, she only has to mention the M word ~ 'Daddy, can I....?' 'No,', 'oh but I'm on my....', 'yes, whatever you want.' swiftly vacates the premises. Big tart.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
  • My mum was soooo proud, she phoned all her friends to tell them. I was mortified

gave me a sanitary belt etcdo they still do them?
    :footie:
  • My Mum did nothing... She just told me she didn't want any babies now...

She also used to bulk buy tampons and towels from the cash and carry but didn't give them to my sister and I, she used to keep them locked in the office and we used to have to ask for the key if we needed anything... When you're 13, you don't really want to be asking your Dad for a key to the office so you can get sanitary equipment!

My daughters are 5 years and 5 months at the minute, I like to think I'll be a bit easier on them when their turn comes...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Left me alone to get on with it, thank goodness.

And I'd get her separate supplies - I'd've hated sharing with my mother.

My mum told me about periods when I was about 9 I think . I felt so privelidged and grown up to know in advance . She told me the signs to look out for and what you did about 'containing' them. I told my DD around the same age. I did find I needed Deoderant much more often (mum only ever bought one for everyone and it had to last) and often felt awkward having to ask for money for pads so I made sure when DD started that she always had a supply of pads or the money for some and a roll on deoderant to herself.
