Just got back and as expected, have been dismissed for gross misconduct.

Sat here devastated, but I am going to appeal.

Thanks so much for the support guys.

I'm really, really sorry to hear this and can understand why you are gutted. Totally understandable but pleased to hear that you're not going down without a fight...hope you're getting lots of support from family? Big hugs...guess the only way is up and at least you have some time to get some advice now? Keep up updated...

    Huge support from the family.

My 10 year old daughter got really upset that someone had been horrible to her mum.

    Made me cry even more.

    spud,

I know this is the last thing you want to do right now, but while it is fresh in your mind, write down everything you remember for the meeting, so you can discuss it with your union rep/solicitor/whoever tomorrow.

    Thanks Emmzi,

I had my Rep who has taken notes at all the meetings.

I'm just sad that I spent all my adult life there, just to be treated like this when I became surplus to requirements.

A nice bottle of red with my DH is helping me feel a bit better !!!

Spud, I am so sorry to hear your news. I hope that your Rep is on the ball and can offer advice as to where to go next. Any little flaw in the procedures by the company could let you in with a successful appeal.

I wish you lots of luck!!

Can you find a solicitor that you can have a free 30 minute session with? Worth finding a good one in the area that deals with employment law.

    Good luck

I did ring ACAS, but they didnt seem able to do owt until I had been dismissed.

Will be ringing them back as soon as I get the confirmation letter from my employer, or former employer !!

    Hi Spud

I notice from the time of your posting you are up in the middle of the night like me. I am going through a tribunal at the moment. My employer made me redundant the day before I was due to go back to work following maternity leave. However, as soon as he realised he couldn't do this, he put nothing in writing and didn't pay me any money, and denied everything. I couldn't sign on or claim any benefits. I too, had just joined DFW and was gutted because my plan of action had gone pear shaped - in fact it went off the planet.

That was in January and six months later I have a solicitor that i obtained through my home insurance and I am waiting for a hearing date. I feel terrible and I only worked for the idiot for two years. You must be gutted having worked there for 22 years and feel like you have been thrown away like a used dish cloth. Please fight this. Did you check your home insurance. Let me know how you get on with ACAS.

If you like I could be your Tribunal buddy. My only word of warning is prepare for a rough ride. My former employers are fighting dirty and things are very difficult for me. I am up one minute and down the next. It has affected my performance in my new job and I have lost all motivation to do well at work. I spend most of my time wanting to tell everyone to stuff it and walk out the door. I am off to the docs this morning - I need to get some quality sleep. Getting up at three every morning, doing a job and then looking after family on very little sleep is killing me.

But I think it will be worth it in the end. Good luck - let me know how you get on.
