The dieting to save money sounds a fab idea - I spend loads on junk
Sometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!
    Total debt @ Oct 2008: £29,226.42 Credit Card- £[STRIKE]7493.56[/STRIKE] - £7243.56
    Weightloss : 0/34lbs
  • well it worked! until I got to goal and let it slide then ended up back spending loads on takeaway and a stone back on... oops! Still making changes with both money and eating again lol! :-) Just need to quit smoking as well :-S still its almost new year, and Im moving into my own flat, away from house shares for the very first time so I'm busy sorting myself out for that :-D and am strangely finding it exciting trying to kit the flat out by spending as little as possible! like a big challenge lol!

I take the radley bag my mam bought me out when im feeling a bit rubbish about being skint.... sad but makes me feel a bit less rubbish :-D I reckon if you already have it, its not a bad thing unless you want to sell them, its just making sure you dont buy anymore :-D I'll probably get shouted at for that cos its all stuff you could sell to cut your debt!! oops :-)
  • oh and the other advantage of being skint is if you get to the weight u want to be chuck out/sell all your ''fat clothes'', then cos u cant afford to go out and buy new you realise quicker if its sliding lol! thats the main reason i've noticed how bad i've been!!!

ailsa - moving into your own place, how exciting!! Ebay's gotta have some great stuff on it for you and freegle is ace - only just found out about it.

As for selling the bags, the prices that they're selling for on ebay mean that I'd lose about 80% of what I paid!! Am happy to cut out other stuff before I sell them... :D

I don't really want to publish an SOA because there's nothing on there that I think needs changing particularly.

I think that's the attitude that got you into this mess - it's harsh to blame your parents for not bailing you out when you are not prepared to look at your own spending patterns.

i have published my SOA and am not blaming my parents at all for not bailing me out. I'm sure if I asked them they probably would but i wan to sort it myself... It's my fault, I'm just jealous of what they have!! And I'm trying to work on it now poppy. Cant remember the last saturday when i didnt go shopping but this saturday i stayed in! Even made money from refunds on stuff that my OH took back for me!

  • Is there a particular need to run 2 cars when there are only 2 of you?
Could 1 of you think about buses or car shares - or perhaps downsizing the cars to cheaper runabouts?

Number of adults in household........... 2
    Number of cars owned.................... 2

I would look at ditching things like the satelite tv/sky in favour of freeview. £44 saving.

Possibly look at a cheaper mobile phone contract - or having pay as you go for incoming calls only - friends and family will understand. Min £15 saving.

£200 a month on clothing - do you really need this much? start ebaying or going to charity shops or cheaper places.
I limit myself to about £30 a month for just 1 new item or a few essentials like bra's/pants/socks etc.. possible £170 saving.

Holiday fund could take a back burner for a bit - £50 a month off towards your debts for a while could really help shift it. £50 saving.

Grow your hair long, or try to have your hair cut less or get it cut by apprentices or at your local college for cheaper.
I get my hair coloured out of a bottle once every couple months, get it cut quarterly and trim my own fringe. All those pennies count.
I work in a very busy - posh office and it looks fine. Poss £20 saving.

Amount left after debt repayments....... 170.59
doing the above could save you at least £299 a month.

Leaving you with £469.59 a month in your pocket.
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!

    Hi bazwod
Well done on the good start you have made!!

Try looking at your parents wealth in a different light to turn your feelings to your advantage. They must have had about 30 years longer than you to accumulate their money, so it is completely unrealistic to compare yourself to them.

Instead, try to think about how good a financial situation you could have and how much closer your lifestyle could be to theirs if you sort your finances out now Once you get to nearer their age if you sort this out and continue your life free of the 'need' to spend you could have that life too. Jealousy could easily be turned into determination :D

Thansk for taking the time to reply treacle.... the car stuff - we both need one because we each live about 1/2 hr drive from work (each in the opposite direction!!). My OH starts at 6am and there's no buses and my job means I can finish at crazy o clock sometimes so there's often no buses...

The clothing stuff has been reduced now and I'm just going t o spend as little as possible....the hair stuff is a great idea although I'm not brave enough to cut my own fringe!!

As for the Sky, I'm completely 100% up for getting rid of it but my OH can't live without it... i explained in an earlier post, he doesn't spend money on anything else so that we can afford the mortgage etc so it is his one thing...either way, it doesn't fill me with joy that I have to pay!!

Le Cat. That's a very good way to look at it! As you say, they've had a lot longer to get rich as it were and it is unrealistic to compare myself to them. Hopefully if I carry on like everyone is encouraging me to do then I will be free. And then my 'need' to spend will hopefully have dwindled. I think if it was my money i was spending I'd be a lot less likely to buy stuff and a lot tighter, after all it would be my hard earned money!!

    thanks lovely! :D
