windows 98 se internet connection via router/modem

    Your key thing is the network card is invalid in Device Manager, without a network card you have no chance.

    If it's motherboard mounted then the motherboard manufacturer should provide the drivers.

    What make/model is your motherboard?

    dell gx110 is the make of pc

    dont know what the motherboard is,

    searching on the web, it comes back with a 3c920, but i cant find the drivers for it
    smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;) :cool:

    Different point, but have you setup WPA encryption on the router, if not, you should.. and disable the ssid broadcasting.

    i am already using the router for another pc connected via cable and a laptop via wireless
    smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;) :cool:

    Ok, I knew about the laptop, just didn't want you to expose your 98 PC to the neighbours.. a lot of people do..

    have you tried the nic drivers?

    yep, but no go..... the dell website says it has a 3c920, but i cant find the drivers for it.

    I have checked the socket where the cable goes in and it is orange...... i know it should be green.

    any ideas how i can check to see if it is working ? (apart from control panel)
