    PC manufacturers website?

Sometimes deleting the device from device manager, and doing a refresh or add new hardware might pick it up.

If it is a seperate board, rather than on the motherboard, you could take the cover off and have a look to see what it is, then download the driver from the website on another PC.

Some isp's won't allow you to use anything less than Me anyway.

Hence my suggestion of XP home.

manufacturers website should have a driver if it still isn't working.

The ISP (even AOL) won't know what o/s you have, 98 and IE will work ok.

    ??????????????????

If you are connecting to the ISP through a modem/router. It won't make any difference at all as to the operating system of the computer. This advice is nonsense!

I have a 98SE computer running perfectly well (and faster than a lot of new computers) on my network at my other house.

It's only my bad memory that's stopping me giving you the correct advice now. I will pop around my other place tomorrow, and post from the 98SE computer. I'll double check the settings you need to have in place and hopefully get you up and running.

just checked system properties and hardware, the pci ethernet controller is invalid. how do i find out which driver i require as i tried to reinstall the driver (using the win98se disc, in the hope it was on there!!!1)

Think the OP needs to reinstall or download the correct NIC driver for their PC..

and then make sure that TCPIP is bound to that network card.
