ok, in case anyone is interested the problem was 'gaps in spark plugs, wouldnt catch, flooded'
whatever that means
apparently i just had to press on the accelerator quite hard for a while to make it catch and then leave it running for a bit.
he said i might need new spark plugs if ive never had any changed (i havent) but to see him for a service when its ready, he said its nothing major anyway
£15. whereas if i used the first bloke, it would have cost me £500 -
Just as a matter of interest, when was the last time you had it serviced/oil change/ etc?Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

...'gaps in spark plugs, wouldnt catch, flooded'

The "gaps in spark plug", could mean he checked them and they were correct, or that they were damaged (in which case he should have replaced them).
You would have flooded the engine (induced too much petrol) when you continued to attempt to start it. Taking the spark plugs out would have allowed the excess fuel to evaporate

I notice you said that you had started the car to move it a short distance.
I have a Nissan Micra and if I leave it in the drive when I get home at 5pm then put it in the garage later at night if it is going to be frosty, unless I run the engine for 2 or 3 mins it will not start easily the next morning. Someone in a garage told me that Nissans are known for that though until I read your post I'd never heard of anyone else having that problem.
So now I never just start the engine and move it into the garage or the other way round without leaving the engine running for a few minutes.

strange, although as I say, it has NEVER let me down before, although thinking about it, i havent ever done exactly what you have said there, which is to move it a very small distance quickly and then about 12 hours later start it up again.... not sure why that would be a problem though?0
