I think I have a flat battery.....

If you've got AA cover why have you rang mobile mechanics? The AA will come and jump start you, driving the car for about 30 mins should recharge the battery enough to start again in the morning, provided it's not the alternator or faulty battery.
see above, no home start
i did comparison quotes too and the 103pa was the cheapest i found, dont understand. i did ring them at renewal too and say i wanted it cheaper but that was the price i got
snot fair0 -
Jenner...be careful about guessing and just throwing money at it.
If when you turn the key,the engine can be heard clearly running as if to start but it doesnt start then its unlikely to be a battery issue, especially if the lights work etc.
It needs proper diagnosis.
Do you have a local garage that you use? Probably a safer bet than a mobile mechanic..
If you have a breakdown service, check them out.
Dont go buying a new battery just yet as it may be money down the drain.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
how the hell do you get that so cheap???
i have the AA and it was 103pa. ( have called them out twice for flat tyres)
how come only 19 quid??
It's basic rescue; no relay or home start."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Sounds like the battery is ok, thenyes, it is trying to start, its doing that sound like its just about to turn over but does it over and over again but doesnt turn over (im not even sure that is the right terminology)

mmm, ob viously not battery then.
my lovely car has never let me down, i cant believe it would do this to me
i have just done a quote pretending im someone else on the AA, and its 72 quid if i just have relay which is what i have, but i seem to recall that they were charging me more because i had called them out twice. its 107 if i had picked home start but i cant do it now tonight because it will be more for calling them out now i think.
i dont have a local garage i use, ive never used a garage apart from kiwk fit to do servicing. we only moved here in June anyway0 -
Ah i see, i'm probably lucky in that my car is parked somewhere that could be considered a different street so i'd just give that location

yes, it is trying to start, its doing that sound like its just about to turn over but does it over and over again but doesnt turn over (im not even sure that is the right terminology)have just checked it again. if i put the lights on with no key in the ignition they come on ok.
if i put the key and turn it on (no engine) the battery light comes on and stays and a yellow thing below it. the oil stayed on for a while too.
then turn the ignition on (starting the engine), engin doesnt start, chugs and chugs, and the battery and yellow sign stay on.
so possibly not the battery??
oil???
You're not using the correct terminology
"Turn over" = engine is trying to start making a good healthy loud sound the only thing wrong is that it doesn't actually start and run on it's own (without you holding the key)
Sounds to me like your battery is ok, stop trying to start the car or you really will flatten the battery!
Might be a fuel problem (no fuel)
A spark problem (if petrol)
A damp problem (rain) but again this is just another version of a spark problem.
It's not an oil problem, although you should always check your oil is correct level.0 -
actually, now that i remember someone told me that my habit of driving on virtually an empty tank could damage the car,,, do you think that this is what has happened?
also in the summer, i did run out of petrol in the street and had to go and get some and pour it in, do you think this has damaged the engine??
thing is that i dont understand is that i moved the car this morning out of the drive and it was fine,,so now all of a sudden it wont go????0 -
it definately has fuel, half a tank0

ok, i will leave it alone now. its sort of making a half healthy sound, although not rythmically, sort of in jumps and starts and only when key is turned v hard.0
