Wow! A lot of responses. Obviously I'm in a minority here, but I can honestly say that I'm mystified as to what the appeal is. They always taste soapy to me, whoever makes them. And if you have them with meat I hate the way they disappear straight down your throat leaving you with a mouthful of only meat. Anyway it seems that there's no better explanation than that it's personal preference.

purpleivy, I don't have any problem with making an effort but to me this is a case of a bit of effort making a rubbish meal.

We just had mash with our tea, its yummy mmmmmm.
You peel em boil em and mash em up with butter and milk/cream/cheese/olive oil etc how easy is that?

Anyone who thinks mash is hard work obviously doesn't cook much, most of us enjoy cooking from scratch. Perhaps oldstyle is the wrong board for the OP?

Maybe you have sensitive taste buds  I find kiwi fruit to be bitter, astringent and gritty. A frined who knows about such things suspects I'm allergic :D

You forgot bubble and squeak, with red cabbage and sliced roast beef.

I like potatoes, its one of my basic foods that you should never run out of, along with pasta, rice, milk, flour and eggs, can make a lot of meals with just those alone, add a few more bits and the world is your oyster. Well okay not quite, but you get my drift.:rotfl:
Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.

We're having bangers and mash for tea tonight, nom nom.

  • Most people I've observed eating a jacket potato generally mash it with a fork before eating it (although I can't say I watch a lot of people eating jacket potatoes :p)

I eliminated the overhead; steam a bag of potatoes, grate and mash in two blocks of mature cheddar, dish up into containers and freeze. As far as I'm concerned I then have several jacket potato with cheese ready meals which are just unfortunately missing the skin :)

And if it does make sense to mash potatoes, why not go the whole way? Put all your food in a blender and eat it with a baby spoon?

You say that like it's a bad thing
