well i have 2 cats 11 and 9. they have been indoor cats until june this year and even though they wander round the garden, they are home bodys and use trays still.

i have always used catsan. i have experimented with others but prefer this one. i use cat toilet houses without a door on them. it doesnt stop the litter from being trodden about a bit outside the base, but it does prevent wee or poo from dropping down the edge of the tray like the topless trays sometimes do!

i scoop poo out when they do it, put it in a carrier bag, into the bin.

wee is left until the whole tray gets emptied every other day and fresh lot of litter goes in.

this is why i dont like the clumping kind of litter because it means after a few wees, the whole tray has clumped up, leaving cloggy deposits on their paws and my floors.

i use two trays, one of my cats is diabetic, she wees an awful lot, more if she isnt stable on her insulin, so the tray gets very wet. but when she was little, undiabetic, the wee was not so much and the tray was dry underneath.

i havent bothered with litter tray liners for years as they simply get shredded when they scratch around in the tray

We found that Catolet was excellent for our diabetic cat. We found we were only changing the litter about twice a week as it can absorb a huge amount of liquid very quickly.
  • I have 2 cats and use sainsbury's equivalent to catsan. I am thinking on buying a hooded litter tray as I am sick of hoovering half the litter off the kitchen floor (and that is with the litter tray in a cupboard)

This did give me a giggle and I am now wondering if anyone on here has/is using this system

Impressed with your moneysaving ingenuity Spike! :T Home Bargains have jumbo [STRIKE]litter trays[/STRIKE] underbed storage boxes in for £2.99, even cheaper than the Wilkinson's ones I mentioned earlier. I need a large area of litter because I rather suspect Noah will overshoot otherwise: he always seems to be hanging out of the large tray we already have.

Thanks,Must be the Jock in me!:p
Daisy's a very clean little girl, she always pees & poos in the same spot in the tray & rarely makes a mess.
  • I have 4 cats and use the Jumbo Hooded tray from Zooplus with out the door, its enormous (put product no 19586 in the search)
i Buy Sophisticat clumping litter from Makro, its £3.50 +vat for 20 ltrs
from empty the tray takes about half a bag but a bag lasts around a month with daily removal of clumps

Can I just ask, as you guys clearly have done more research than me!, is a 3kg bag of World's Best equivalent to a 10L bag of Okoplus?
Likewise the 15kg vs the 40L...

I'd like to give Oko a try for a bit, just not sure how the prices compare. It's a nightmare trying to convert the two without getting into density, mass etc lol!

World's best is darn good stuff and if anything can hold a candle to that, I'd be impressed! But at £3.33/kg I think I need something cheaper.

If you want cheaper than World's Best then source some chick crumb (baby chicken food!) - it's made from maize the same as WB and, according to many breeders, has all the same properties when used as litter. I agree it's a b*gg*r when one brand is sold by volume and the other by weight - I have a 40 litre bag of OkoPlus which is VERY heavy, you really aren't paying for lots of air. I reckon to spend about £1 a week for one indoor cat if that helps?
