  • I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time right now - on top of everything else. With regards to the house - have you spoken to the council? they aren't likely to want to kick you out - it's not really in anyone's best interests - if you are going bankrupt can you explain this to them and make an arrangement to pay back the arrears?
Also are you getting all the benefits you are entitled to? are you gettting second adult rebate -is this applicable to you?
Wish I could help but it seems your best option is to go bankrupt -it'll all sort itself out - just look after yourself and your family.
    Best of Luck with everything

Yeh i spoke to council who originally wanted me out on 22nd Dec but thats on hold as long as i pay £15 per week, when i go back to work this will change to full rent as im not entitled to HB or CT then. CT have slapped a liability order on me which will come out of my pay on my return to work and im getting the rebate on it already.CAB checked my entitlement and it appears to be correct atm.I presume the arrears and CT can go in bankruptcy, i think thats what he told me anyway, i got rather upset at the meeting and dont remember everything he told me.Atm i hate my ex husband for helping me into this mess by not supporting me or his kids the last 12 yrs, one of the loans i had was to pay for my sons funeral and headstone as he wouldnt help, says it all really hey.

As you are a civil servant have you thought of applying to the civil service benevolent fund (possibly also a benevolent fund available via your trade union if you are a member?). This might help you with getting the bankruptcy fees together (I've no idea if they would pay this but worth a call surely).

If you were able to get your bankruptcy fees this way, then any money you had saved towards them (by not paying payments on your debts, cutting back on grocery spends etc) you could give to your friend to cover a few months loan repayments. That might then help give you some breathing space to save some more money for your friend from coming in underbudget in some areas as you go along month by month?

As a civil servant I assume that you will also have some kind of employee assistance programme in place. They would generally offer telephone counselling, some also offer face to face too. This would possibly provide you with some support in dealing with your return to work and your current situation?

I hope this is of some help and wish you well.

  • Hi kat,
yes your right, but when my son died last yr i had help from both the benevolent fund and the union for funeral costs of £700 ( for which im extremly grateful) but the total was £2100 and then the headstone 1000 all mounts up and i been on nil pay this yr. They said they wouldnt be able to help any further at that time. Ive been trying to get in touch with their counciling service with no joy, my line manager was going to refer me himself but that was in sept and ive still heard nothing. Im in touch with cruse but was not up to attending the initial appointment so its being changed to the new yr. Ive not been able to save anything towards fees yet, my mum is going to try to help with those but she lives in spain and doenst really m going to be returning to work on reduced hours building up to fulltime but then i need to make a desision as to whether i go parttime or not, only finances and my health will decided on that one. My heads totally muddled trying to deal with everything thats being thrown at me, i just wish it would stop i cant keep going on an hours sleep everynight just need to switch of from it all. Thanks for your advise gratefully recieved.
  • Hi everyone
Sorry I've not been on here much last few weeks, been trying to get through xmas in one piece and sort some things out. Well I made it and I'm still here, well sort of lol. Anyway heres a bit of an update.
I saw CAB again beginning of Jan and the guys was pretty helpful this time, i think he must have realised he was quite harsh previously. I have decided to go ahead with bankruptcy and have the forms etc to fill in and am ringing court mondayto make an appointment for 1st March.
My situation has change and i need some help with a few things before i redo my soa to post for advice. I returned to work on 11th Jan doing a rehab plan to help me stay there this time. This was against my doc and work docs advise but for my sanity i had to go it a go but Ive cut my hours to 4 6hr days.So far things are going ok there. My son started work on 18th Jan, im so chuffed for him, so is therefore no longer on JSA which is where im now stuck. What do i put on the soa form, do i class him as a 2nd adult at home and expect a contribution off him which i put on soa. my hb/ctb have now stopped so im just receiving my wages tc/ct and chib. im a bit confused no, i only just got my head round the first soa i did.
I really need to get this done asap for my own sanity, ive made a list since xmas of things i need to deal with and slowly things are getting crossed of, its keeping me focused atm, dont get time to think about all thats happened this last 14month, hey at least i didnt top myself at xmas, thought i might at one point i might, but reading quietly on here helped keep me going, and for that i owe you a huge thank you guys.

hi megan, well done on getting back to work it sounds like a real possitive step for you to get back to routine.

Adult children is a bit of a vague point, the guidance says that the minimum they should pay for is their own food. it doesent say what else they should pay for. Normally the best way to do it is just to do it wothout taking them into account at all. Ie no contribution from them and not to include any of ther expenditure.

    hope that helps
