ripped off by tescos

  • Yea I will agree, I did think of that whilst typing but I didn't add it. I just wanted to add multiple suggestions.

So we are suggesting that it might have been bought off someone else that got it from Tesco (the most likely alternative). That person could take it back at the current time, so could you, I don't see how this makes a difference to Tesco. But yes, it makes it more awkward.

I rang our Tesco last week as had faulty Philips phone and couldn`t find the receipt, they said have another look and if still can`t find it then we can trace the purchase through your clubcard if you used it. So there may be hope with the clubcard if you can`t find anything else. (I found the receipt in the end so it was ok for us)
  • Absolutely, go back to tescos where you bought the item and ask to speak with the manager because they have to record YOUR details for TV licensing records amongst other things. Say to them taht you accept the fact that you have lost the receipt but want them to investigate their records to prove when you bought the item. I am sure if you are pleasant and polite they will oblige. Good luck ,,,.

they CAN trace it through your clubcard but it takes time and that is why they are saying no, also as it is a TV receiver they would have taken your details from the Clubcard to pass on to TV Licencesing - even if you paid cash no clubcard they would have had to take those details

any retailer, that sells a tv, has to forward your details for tv licsensing, so they will be able to trace the transaction somehow. :j
  • the dvd has stopped working, I fail to spot how that makes any differance though,

Well you may have dropped it for all we knew and if that was the case you'd have no come back

Really? I got a TV at the checkout at tesco, and even paid with cash...
  • I see that some of you take issue with me about me useing the term "rip off" . I have a tesco product that has been sold for less than a year, I have the box it came in with the tape that they put around it to prove that it's been paid for. the item appeared on my clubcard and this is information that they do keep to target me with offers. for them to attempt such a cheap mean minded policy of refusing to accept responsability for their own faulty goods is a rip off.
On a happier note, after an exhaustive search through the attic the reciept has been found. can anybody tell me if I can demand a full refund now? because there is not a snowball in hells chance of me ever spending my money with tescos again. I live in the south hams, I did consider starting a new group called South Hams Against Tesco but I think the name needs a little work
  • last december I purchased a 22in tv/dvd player from tesco. I paid in cash and the receipt has gone walkabout, but I do still have the box that it came in complete with the tape that they put around it so security don't mug you on the way out.
I've been in touch with both the help line and tesco head office and both say that unless I have the reciept or credit card slip there's nothing that they can do. why is a company that makes a profit of £3 billion a year trying to stiff me for £200 and is there anything that can be done to stop it?

I have done your first and the last post of your issue with TESCO's, in the first there is no mention of clubcard and having used that which is why people said you have no chance and saying it is a 'rip off' was innappropiate.

However in the last message you have mentioned it so I would have used this to your advantage when requesting your repair/refund/replacement etc

well done on finding the reciept though but if there is no proof of purchase there is no reason at all that a company should refund an item they cannot prove was bought from their shop...surely you can understand that?

    SShhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  • I did suggest they could check it through my clubcard but they deny being able to get any information from this, they only started selling to sets last year so there's no possability that it's an older unit and out of its guarantee period.
I did miss some information in my first post, but I had already raised the clubcard point with tescos. since they could see that I would spend well over £150 per week with them I wasn't expecting a quibble when it came to replacing faulty goods.

I fear your going to be disappointed again, you can demand but to use your own words there is "not a snowballs chance in hell" Tesco will offer a full refund. A repair is probably the best your going to get
