Could be worse! We knew for a while that our 4 year old son tended to kiss his best friend (male) on the lips and weren't that bothered. We weren't quite so sure when we found out that the friends 3 siblings all had suspected swine flu!

Strangely though this particular child out of the 4 didn't go down with it and so far no evidence of our son getting it! Maybe its good for them!

Most kids are quite aware of words like snogging at this age, but do not really fully understand what it means - maybe you can gently encourage her that "a peck on the cheek" is the coolest thing to do!

This. Whilst it's cute between little kids, I'd be uncomfortable if my child was giving me or her dad a wet one on the lips. A peck on the cheek or forehead (even a bit of a sloppy one ;)) would be fine.

As well as this some kids simply don't go for such affection- and a full blown snog from another child might leave them a bit mortified, especially if they haven't seen such a thing before.

I think everyone will feel differently about it, but for me, I feel that children thrive on love and affection, and they get this from their friends as well as their family. My DD is only 17 months and her and her friends (boys and girls) kiss all the time. We ask if they want to give each other a cuddle/ kiss to say goodbye, and she will give my friends a kiss too on the lips as thats how they know how to kiss, but I would never force her, it is her choice. On the same theme, if it is genuinely making your DD uncomfortable (not just you) then I would explain that it is her body, and if she is happy to have a kiss then fine, but if she doesn't want one then she needs to ask them not to do it, and if they carry on to tell a teacher. While working with children for over 10 years, I have seen some very affectionate children who just do not realise it is making others uncomfortable, and so while I think it is perfectly acceptable at that age to have a kiss and a cuddle the school will prob be keeping an eye on the situation anyway in case it is getting out of hand. The only thing that would worry me like I have mentioned above is that my DD knows what she likes and if she isn't enjoying it that she can speak up and say stop I don't like that, as some children are allowed to watch very inappropriate things on TV, and I would worry (a tiny bit) that it may go a bit far (prob not likely at this age but maybe 6-7.) As far as just kissing on the lips etc is concerned, especially at age 5 I think it is very innocent and is just a game to them, it feels nice and so they do it, it goes no further than that. They will get to an age where it will start to embarrass them so it usually stops then anyway.
