Children Kissing

I wonder if anyone can help put my mind at rest:o
My daughter who is 5 has kissed a couple of her friends and her sibling on the lips. I feel very uncomfortable about it and have told her off but with hindsight realise that this may be normal behaviour and don't want to cause her any anxiety. They have apparently been playing princes and princesses:rolleyes:

  • Its normal for goodness sake. Don't tell her off for being an innocent child enjoying her life, you are likely to cause all sorts of psychological problems.
  • I think its normal behaviour to be honest, my 3 year old kisses his friends sometimes but I dont mind it, I think its quite cute really they'll soon get to an age where they too embarrased to. But then you're her parent and its ultimatley up to you. x

just to add theres loads of pics of me at that age kissing my cousin, apparantly we were always kissing and hugging!

A simple "its normal" would have sufficed:p

Totally normal lol. Slightly less common for boys as I understand it, but completely normal.

My 3 year old is a bit fussy about kissing, and often wipes her face to scrub a kiss off (she's like me, a bit 'prickly' with a generous personal bubble, though extremely affectionate with those she knows well) but virtually all of her friends will kiss and hug each other and try to kiss her.

My youngest would happily kiss anybody, even if she's only just met them lol.

Just saw your last comment. The snog thing could just be holding the kiss for a long time? My youngest DD does this - I've even had tongue from her :rotfl: but it's just her experimenting/exploring (she was a little over a year old at the time I think).

Could she be...ahem...copying some way of kissing that she's seen? :o
  • my little boy gives me a 'super snog' as he calls it lol, he just kisses me on the lips n holds it like nbirdy says, he doesnt stick his tongue in tho ha! maybe they've seen it on telly or something and are just copying?

Well when she first did it we decided to be very careful not to let her watch any grown up television although she doesn't watch alot of television anyway. Some of the kids programmes like Hannah Montana and suchlike are about boys and the dilemmas of teenage relationships so I am guessing it may be some of those although I have quite an affectionate relationship with my husband. Should we avoid this kissing when the children are around?

You snog in front of your child and wonder why she does it too? Kids copy adult behaviour.
