:( Unfortunately my hours have been cut in half in work again so I am probably not going to be able to do this challenge. In fact if I can even meet minimum repayments I'll be very surprised.

Popping back in... Found out I got a nice little pay increase this year! I think it will add about £100 to my take home pay, which will make my plans this year more realistic! Bonus wont be coming until April ish, so hopefully that will be another boost.

Taking my frugal life on the road!
  • Am keep a little 'cash book' and updating it daily on Grocery Challenge and £10K challenge and it is keeping me on straight and narrow, for once. Wish I'd done this years ago.

Anway, have earned a couple cashbacks, an amazon sale, found loose change on worktop (OHs) and cashed up bagged coppers - plus put away regular saving so now am a 10th of way to £10K - whoohooo! ;)

Keep on doing great everyone. What seems like really hard work initially is turning into an OCD challenge for me!! Will check Amazon listings tomorrow and add some more for sale bits and bobs.

    Night all.

Just seeing that some people are counting savings made on purchases and bills etc. Are you counting that as you have made a theoretical saving that you otherwise would have spent or are you only counting it if you have banked/utilised the saving.

ie I just ordered a present at RRP £20 reduced to £6 in a sale. Should I count a £14 saving or only if I actually bank £14 in my savings. Does that make sense?

    What's the consensus?

Hi boomdecker, that is always a tricky one, and a personal decision. Would you have purchased the item at its full price? Is it something you would normally or had to buy? I count savings in this challenge, but usually on things that I would have bought the same time last year. I know I spend roughly £10 on presents, for example, per person, so if I made or bought a present for £3 I would physically put the £7 straight into savings. If I didn't have a spare £7 then I couldn't have afforded it in the first place! Transferring money into an account or pot when you save is a great way of watching the savings mount up.

Afternoon all and welcome to all new comers! :j

Jellicat, keep your chin up - you're in the best place for help and advice if money is going to be tight!

I'm more determined than ever to achieve this, this year. We had our flat valued this morning to very disappointing news. We're valued at about £75k with an expectation to achieve £70k. The mortgage is still for £65k so nothing for us to work with to move up the ladder.

The advice was to save a deposit for a house and keep the flat as more likely to rent than sell. So debts need to be cleared and saving needs to start happening big time!

Have today received £68 in ebay sales and posted phones worth £71 so fingers crossed that each little bit helps. Thanks to every one on here though because without you that extra income would be frittered away!

Have received free vouchers for local mecca tonight so free night out planned too! :rotfl:
Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...
