Anyone else planning to save money by changing their eating habbits? I live on my own and I'm going to try to manage on only £10 food shopping per week. It's going to be hard as I also intend to lose another 2 stone on 2010 so I can't eat all the rubbishy cheap food that's full of fat.
At the moment I'm planning to manage it by eating in a more old fashioned style. One of my Christmas pressents was a slow cooker so I'm going to buy a cut of meat every week and spend an evening making stews and pies, I've just learned how to make pastry and my mom has donated a set of pyrex dishes.
I'm also going to stop buying sweets and chocolates, if I need a sugare rush I'll make home made jam tarts or muffins
I'm quite looking forward to it really... wonder how long before I'm desperate for a McDonalds!! lol0 -

Hi,
I am on the same page as you when it comes to this... I want to lose some weight, I love my slow cooker (I swear by the thing) and I need to reduce the amount I am spending on food (£10 per week would be amazing).
I just need to work out where to start though... I've been searching for a thread on here about eating on a budget, but I haven't been able to find anything yet.

Take a look on the Old Stye boards - loads of threads on meal planning and food budgeting over there. And there is a slow cooker recipe thread. :money:Debt at lightbulb moment (18 Aug 2009) 30933.95,Debt 1 July 2011 £9663.71Debt free date[STRIKE]February 2017[/STRIKE] September 20160

Can I just say...I know this isn't very MSE initially...but if you want a Slow-Cooker which will save you money in the long-run (because you can cook in bulk and freeze) then Tesco's are selling their Crock Pot slow Cooker's off and they are reduced from about £38 down to about £18 and they are 3.5 litre ones so enough to cook for the whole family.
I have managed to wangle my Ex-Boyfriend (who is still one of my best friends) to buy me one as my Christmas Present as he couldn't figure out what else to get me... :T
I'm all psyched up for this...even though I'm full of a cold at the moment and finding it difficult to work because I work on the Phones...But if I can do a few hours here and there it will all help... :money:0 -

I also want to/need to lose some weight as well so my shopping habits are definitely going to change - hopefully I will lose some lbs as well as £s.
But can someone tell me what is so special about slow cookers - I see lots of people rave about them but why?? How are they used? Any good for veggies??One debt in 100 days £384/1264(£865 left)Pay all your debt off by xmas 2014 £276/18864NSD 4 and 4 in a row0 -

Not sad at all and if it is that makes two of us :rotfl:.
I was glad that I didn't go to the sales and that I am going to spend the New Year working overtime as that means more of an indent to the debt. Now that must be sad :rolleyes:One debt in 100 days £384/1264(£865 left)Pay all your debt off by xmas 2014 £276/18864NSD 4 and 4 in a row0 -
Afternoon All,
Hope everyone had a top xmas and got what they asked for from Santa!!
Have stuck another £100 in my fund:T unfortunately, my bonus from work was so pathetic that it won't make any difference, it'll have to go towards making my wages last until end of Jan:mad: but hey ho. I got some show tickets for xmas which I was thinking about selling, but have decided to use them myself as it is so rare I ever go anywhere, bit of a treat for myself!
I'm all signed up to Avon now, just waiting for my area allocation to come through then off I go, flogging lippy! Have signed up for NSD challange throughout Jan and am hoping by living on virtually nothing, the money will start mounting up. I'm not going to count my DMP payments towards the total, as the point of me trying to get £10k is so that I can clear them with settlement payments as well as save up a bit. Am currently looking for somewhere cheaper to live, preferably a houseshare, but it's proving a tough with two cats in tow. Anyhoo, have a full fridge and freezer after a cooking frenzy yesterday with all the leftover xmas food I scrounged off various friends and family, so won't have to go shopping for at least 4 weeks - thank god you can freeze veg!!! Have a good one all xxxxDebt as at Feb 14: £2272.40DFW Nerd no. 1024June Overhaul #260
