To be honest, I really hate using those things with a member of staff looking over my shoulder. It's many times worse than doing it alone, even if I am struggling.

If I have three options: Manned till, self service with person keeping their distance, or self service with someone "helping" option 3 is by far the worst for me.

Better than back in the day with people paying by cheque and the entire queue would let out a collective moan when the person in front took out their cheque book as the process took aaaages!
