B&Q staffing seemed a bit pointless

Cash is no longer quicker than card... now you often get card only tills, much better.
Card only tills is a good idea as well. If I ever open a shop I think I might have a cash only till, card only till, self check out tills and a 'card only with dodgy chip that doesn't read or you can't remember your pin number' till. That way people like me who normally get stuck won't get stuck behind themIf At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
i also work at A B&Q, these self service are great, if people know how to use them, and to the people who wish to learn and arent just arrogant
its simple
scan, put on scale and pay! theres even a freaking video of how to do it, cant be hard.
i do agree about smaller items not being weighed, but thats because they are the cheapest machines available.
to those who say people are being made redundant or loosing their jobs, No, no there not, since the instillation of self service, at least 6 new checkout operators have been hired.
and shops will NEVER be just self service with no staff, theres always some one needed to run it, and if you hadnt noticed, they cant do returns!
in my store, theres always 2 people on checkouts, one on self serve and one on checkout, untill 8pm when one member of staff goes home.
you have to bear in mind, cashiers do have other jobs to do, such as putting stock back on the shelf and trollies, where all the arrogant and lazy customers cant push it back to where you got it from.
to those that moan that oh are these the only ones open, yes its 8:30 at night, should you even be doing DIY at this time of night?

Seems like you need to learn who ultimately pays your wages okie. The man without a signature.0 -

What does the time have to do with anything?
If the shop is open don't you think customers have the right to reasonable service.
With an attitude like yours, I'm surprised that you are in any job that involves interacting with customers.0 -

I must admit that i've always had better things to do with my time than notice if a till can do returns.
It made me wonder why you decided to drag up a 12 month old post and have a pop at the people who keep you in the job, if these people didn't come into your store then you wouldn't have a job.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
The biggest problem with the B&Q tills is they are so damned slow! That goes for TESCO too. I can stand there trying to get stuff to scan repeatedly or I can go to a manned checkout and the trained operator does it in a fraction of the time.
If I could scan things quickly then I would use them without a major grumble.0 -
i dont use self serve ones, if i wanted a job as a checkout operator then i'd apply. if thats all thats open then i leave, same goes for asda, tesco etc. everyone should do that, this way gets the employment up, not like you get the goods cheaper for self service0

I got really annoyed the other week in B&Q, there were 4 self serve tills open, no regular tills, and everyone of them had the light flashing to say that assistance was needed, and there were NO staff to be found but a huge queue forming. There wasn't anyone stood by the tills at all. One member of staff walked by and I tried to get her attention but she just looked at me and walked off in the other direction. Ok she may not have been working on the tills but that was just rude. I get that they may be short staffed but it was just ridiculous. I like the self service tills normally but there has to be the staff there to back them up.0

Tell me, where do they find the likes of you and your colleagues?
