Hehe are you're like my dear old nan -- cold bloodied (hope I don't cause offense). The pavements could be melting due to the heat and she'll still complain its too cold. If you have the funds available you might find an energy saving monitor useful - it monitors your electric consumption on a real-time basis so you can see the impact different appliances have your energy use - so you cna best determine where to look at cutting back. I think they cost approximately £40.00

"Some like it hot" :D Thats me:D

I've got an OWL work lent me, is that what you are talking about.
They offered them to all staff to borrow, I'm hoping they only want the results & not the machine back:D

Shower - if you turn it off & then on again it goes reh hit, then freezing cold then back to normal. My DH is murder, he turned it on while getting ready to jump in:mad::mad::mad:
I do moan at him for this but it falls on deaf ears.

If I run the dishwasher on an eco setting won't it wash less well? I don't find it great anyway (as I said, needs changing).

I was everything at 40 (& 60 for towels, bedding & underwear), I always think soap & hot water to get clean:o

My bed is superking. The bottom sheet, the duvet cover & 2 pillow cases is one FULL (to the max) wash. DD had a king size - same again thats another full wash. Towels (I have a love for giant thick bath sheets, with hair towls & bath mats & flannels thats another. Theres 3 on sheets & towels alone.

I have one of those (well very similar) drying lines, I use it for all clothing, because I hate tumble drying clothing.

But to be honest I don't really like drying anything inside the house, I worry about damp & condensation from it, so I don't really want to add to it. But I could make a greater effort in the summer to dry them outside & finish them off in the dryer to fluff up & decrease.

I still have 8 recessed down lighters in my kitchen & 6 in the bathroom & 6 GU10s also in 2 fittings in the hall, stairs & landing. So those 20 GU10s will be soaking up mega I guess. I would like to change them for low energy versions, but reviews keep saying they are not all that. I don't want to spend £200 on them & they bring out better ones a couple of months down the line.

You are making a lot of excuses, perhaps you need to ask yourself whether you are willing to change your lifestyle in order to get your energy bills down or not? There is no right or wrong answer to that question, it's a personal choice!

Your lighting isn't the problem; I have 50W halogen lights throughout and my DD is £34 a month, including all heating and hot water for two people. If you turn the shower off while you are shampooing then take the handset down and point against the wall when you turn back on you won't scald or freeze yourself.

If you are showering daily then really how dirty do you think the towels and bedding are? I wash my sheets frequently if we are 'active' in the bedroom or in summer when you get sweaty just sleeping, and less often in the winter. I wash gym kit and undies at a hotter temperature/ longer wash/ more soap powder if at all possible.

I love my airer that much :o that I'd have two if I had a family, as they take up so little floor space. I open my windows daily to air the flat and to keep condensation down, but a dehumidfier is a lot cheaper to run than a tumble dryer, and will dry even your towels in no time.

    .

I identified something I do today.

    I take fairly long showers.
Because I stand it the shower with red hot water streaming over me while I brush my teeth, then I floss them, then I brush again.
Its lovely, but I guess it doubles my shower time, so I will stop doing that as it is very wasteful.

Well at least you got clean teeth/body :)
  • I have used 46 units of electricity in 17 days, just read the meter this morning to see how I am doing.
Quarterely bill not due till 10th Dec so Gas and Elec figures still to be inputted on 1st Dec to generate actuals.

Think i'm doing ok so far!

@ Lesley_Allan that's approximately 2.7 units per day, or 988KwH per assum well below the OFGem average of 3500kWH so yes i'd say your doing very well.
