Companies have boards and shareholders and such; they're accountable.

    Dictatorships are not.

Really tell that to the banking system!
Microsoft have long released major updates as service packs.

Win 7 is Win 7, otherwise I'd be able to use the liveupdate to install win 7 from vista which I cant.
Perhaps you missed the bit where I said I have two computers here running it?

I didn't miss it at all, however took it with a pinch of salt. I'm a linux guy, but credit where credits due they did a good job, finally.
    I guess that's why it's so popular.

It must be the high cost of ownership that puts people off.

They give it away for free, and they still can't get anyone to use it. :rotfl:

It is popular, its gaining popularity as a desktop slowly however servers like it and the movie industry love it not to mention the fact that is soo scalable it can run on practically anything. People use it everyday and no nothing of it.
I know, who would steal all their ideas?

Yep bill definitely outsmarted old jobs!! And a few others on the way, DOS comes to mind.
I'd be interested to know what percentage of Linux users do their best to make it look like Mac OS X or Windows.

Still, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Thats the beauty though it can be what you want it to be, without the cost.

I personally have never liked they way osx looks, but each to their own.

Asininity my good man, you can put a cat in an oven, but that don't make it a biscuit.

I agree that they're getting somewhere and catching up with OS X in a number of areas.

We've been hearing for years now that it's gaining popularity, and it seems every year is finally going to be the "year of Linux".

Net Applications puts Linux's share of the OS market at 0.96% (down from a high of 1.17% in May), and Mac OS X's at 5.27% (up from 4.12% this time last year). That's quite an indictment considering Linux is free and Mac OS X comes with an admission fee of at least £499 (for a Mac Mini - plus the cost of a display, keyboard, and mouse).

Serious question: why isn't Linux more popular?

He certainly did. Apple have a curious knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

That looks quite nice I guess.

Though, not as nice as a real Mac.

It's just a pity about the beige box it's probably running on. :p

I'm of the opinion the osx isnt as good as what you and other apple fans would have us believe.

Just because win 7 is what vista should have been doesn't make 7 an update. Despite how much you'd like it to be.

You know how I feel about statistics 99.9% of which are made up. However serious answer: Its down to a combination of the where linux grew up, how its distributed, windows monopoly (which effects osx too), money, and advertising. Not to mention FUD.

I seem to remember bill throwing some money at apple in the past.

Well, that's your opinion, which is based upon, I'm led to believe, not a a lot.

Of course it's an update. It's a welcome update, but it's still an evolutionary product. I'm not sure why you think I have a vested interest in believing it to be so. Mac OS X 10.6 is an evolutionary update too if it makes you feel any better (only, Apple are charging £20 for it).

Do you think these things will change in the future?

It certainly beats Ballmer throwing a chair.
My linux box is not beige!

    Sorry, "cosmic latte".

Led to believe wrongly. As always my opinion is based on my experience, and I dont like the look or feel of osx. Obviously I have the chance to change the look of my linux box to osx but never bothered.

Maybe I should get lessons do you have to pay if you dont own a mac?

Ok its an update in the same way XP was, as in an updated OS. Thats funny I paid £0 for my 7 "update".

    Yes.

What features do you dislike (and none of this wishy-washy "look and feel" stuff)?
Maybe I should get lessons do you have to pay if you dont own a mac?

Nope, just pop along to your local Apple Store and go to one of the classes.

You'll find it's one of the best retail experiences in the world.

As did lots of people who purchased qualifying Macs.
    Yes.

How do you think they'll change?

Aren't those problems inherent in Linux itself?

How are they going to advertise?

How are they going to change how it's distributed?

How are they going to get more money?
    Random:confused:

I'm going to start putting joke tags around things:
    [joke]
    My dog's got no nose.
    How does he smell?
I just told you, he's got no nose.
    [/joke]

    No.

Go on then, give us a peek.

Unfortunately, it has to be pointed out that you've made a rod for your own back with that one, Marty J.

Essentially, with the "just" bit. Allied to the "local" bit.

Many people's nearest Apple Retail Store is far from being "local".

(As you, yourself, know – living in a State that has hasn't got a single one.)

But I do realise that you, like I, do sometimes make these innocent little deliberate errors just to see who's paying attention. ;)

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Can you actually change the theme? I really dislike the theme. From using it I dont like it the feel of it, I find it annoying. I'm allowed to btw even if it is apple.

What exactly is it about osx that makes it evolutionary?

Linux is the quickest changing OS around. They'll continue to do what they're doing while companies like dell will help out. I dont know why it has to be fast. And we're only talking about desktops here. Linux is already everywhere.
