Jeremy Vine is doing a discussion about weeing on your compost heap on radio 2, sometime between 12 and 2.
Can't remember who you were that moaned at me for suggesting that and reported me to the moderators, but you might want to ring in and put your POV forward

Seriously? Someone moaned at you for it? But weeing on your compost is a classic! Some people!:o:EasterBun0 -
No no, it's all new stuff according to Mr Vinesomeone is taking the piddle if radio 2 is dumbing down like this.
Amazingly some people still haven't heard about it and are still buying those compost accelerators and tomato food from garden centres.
Maybe this will spread the word a bit.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Actually, I was explaining how daft it was to remove any compostable material off a veg growing site and about the open cycle we have of nutrients from the soil going into us and then being flushed down the loo, instead of having a closed system where it all gets recycled.Seriously? Someone moaned at you for it? But weeing on your compost is a classic! Some people!:o
I then explained that it you wee'd on your plants/compost you closed the cycle a little.
I think I was asked, how I dare suggest this, if memory serves...Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Sorry to interupt this thread mid-flow but you can add it directly to your cabbages:

Human urine for fertilisation isn't a new concept either.0 -

I prefer to go to toilet to urinate rather than use compost heap myself
Some people after a nights drinking session prefer to go down a back alley/street and perhaps a quick bunk up after if they are feeling lucky

blushingbride, yes it will help your compost and your tomatoes and your lawn/brassicas if you dilute it a bit. I don't even bother diluting it round fruit bushes (and sometimes not even round the rest if I'm honest)
A watering can is easier than a bucket, no splashing back
It also saves clean water being flushed down the toilet as well from an ecological viewpoint.
The radio bit was interesting, I didn't learn anything new, but alot of people rang in about how their grandparents used urine for everything in the garden. We only got one disgusted from tunbridge wells ringing in as well.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
