In summary. Its reputation as a business. I buy, sell and trade in a niche market. I treat all my customers the same whether they spend £20 a month, £20 a year or £1,000 in a single transaction. Without doubt it works for me.
Play doesn't send recorded, Amazon doesn't send recorded, actually most of the big name reputation sellers don't. It doesn't make them any less professional. Yes, okay this is within the UK (apart from Channel Island based firms) but why should it be any different? Do what you like, but it is really all in your head I'm afraid. Plus the last sentance of your post makes little sense, since you are the buyer not the seller in this situation.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

    I've been corrected today.:o

Unfortunately I don't sell in the volumes that Play and Amazon do. They will make a profit from their postal services which most likely covers then against any financial loss by dispatching by 1st class post.

As long as you have a business model that works for you and suits the market you are in. Then does it matter?

Actually you are quite correct in that if you have a business model that works then you should stick to it. We all no doubt have a variety of ways that we feel protected or secure whilst maximising profit.

Your correct here about the business model. But any business that does not continuously look at ways to maximise profit without sacrificing customer service, in the long run will fail.

I fail to see how using a method like recorded delivery which costs more money has a high failure rate and is not guaranteed helps the customer in any way. All the customer wants is there item quickly. They do not care about insurance as that is the sellers problem (RD is only basic insurance anyway)

A good business will take on ideas and any safe way to cut costs should be looked at otherwise you'll just end up joining the list of ebay sellers losing money and eventually the business will go. Operating in niche markets is even more dangerous as it only takes one new seller to appear with better products and prices and your business can be on its way down.

But everyone should use a model they are happy with. But using a poorly thought out one will only end up in disaster. Each to there own
  • hello again
what can i do here? I've got paypal telling me theyll review the case once the item is delivered, a usps number which just seems to be proof of postage, the seller states that

    • , I have the postal receipt here in my hand showing it was sent out.Lorraine
    • 13/11/2009 20:19 PST - Seller: I sent you the customs number. Unfortunately, there is no way to trace an international package. My feedback speaks for itself when shipping to my customers. I don't pretend to send packages out. I did mail it to you.You want to hold me responsible for the postal service not getting your package to you as of yet. It still may come
she didnt pay for tracking, this usps number just seems to show it was accepted for posting the same as a postal cert.

fed up now, what can i do?
i cant add any more comments or anything like that, as far as i can see it looks like the seller will just win here
  • well rang paypal and the nice irish fella read through in full and agreed it should be closed in my favour and did so whilst i was on the phone, which is great.

however it does show that paypal don't read the details in full from disuptes as she was actually stating she couldnt track or prove delivery, but they chose to ignore that.

anyway, im sure she'll email me again saying shes crying again or something....:T

Frankly I am not at all surprised that paypal don't read the stuff they actually type out. I have taken to answering all threads on here with statements like 'phone paypal and explain their own rules to them' because frankly half the time they work to the lowest common demoninator and take the easiest route even if it completely disregards their own rules.

It is a shame i think that to use paypal successfully and safely you often need to be more trained on it than the staff they employ. How many threads on here have we about fraudulent use of card claims where paypal completely failt to understand their terms and conditions that the only proof you need to fight such a claim is proof of postage, not even proof of delivery. Well rant over you can all come out again now.

pug I'm glad you got it sorted, but watch paypal for the next few days as they have still failed to do this correctly as seller should be given 10 days to show delivery..but hopfully as she doesn't seem clued up about her responsibilities she may not be aware of that.

ok i broke and rang paypal again, apparently she has appealed on her proof of postage but this doesn't affect my refund so am home free.

I understand now why people become so affronted with paypal disputes1
