Kitchen Where from??

  • Im in the same place as you, 90% sure im going to get my kitchen from Ikea.

1 thing you need to know is ikea cupboards are slightly deeper than standard so you cant really use 600mm worktops. You will need to buy 670mm breakfast bar worktops and have the fitter trim it down.

Im looking at Duropal worktops and they are coming out at around £180for a 4100mmx670mm

    No problem Niall

I'd do it if you had a slightly bigger budget but to be honest its always much easier doing local work.

    Hi again Niall

If you want a composite sink I wouldn't mess about with B&Q. This Blanco one is £380 complete with tap pictured, stainless steel colander and waste kit, available in 10 colours. The Blanco composite sinks are guaranteed for life never to scratch, discolour or damage!

Ikea kitchen is not bad at all, with the £2000+ savings, you can spend it on granite worktop or nice appliances or designer lights etc.

    Thats what I would do.

    Ikea kitchen.

Granite worktop, sexy taps & quality sink (don't get Ikea sink) & lots of lighting.

  • Check out Ebay for your taps and sink, I got my kitchen tap there for half the price and a real bargain ceramic sink from Focus.

Try here http://www.idsurfaces.co.uk/c-1816-international-decorative-surfaces-worktops.aspx for worktops and pick one that has a matching upstand.

I got inspired by vansboy Ikea kitchen but in the end my fitter preferred Howdens and it was as good a price I was happy with that.

Our Ikea kitchen was great (we've now moved). Looked top quality. Taps, sink etc all sourced from elsewhere. Wooden worktop from Ikea looked great after I'd treated it with Danish wax. I planned all the layout on their kitchen planner from their website - really useful to play around with layouts. Fantastic value for money.

Got to do a new kitchen in new house at some point. Will be looking at Ikea and Wickes as I like the round-end cupboards.

we got wickes flat pack as there was more flexibility and they had some sizes that Howdens didn't. Ikea don't have a service void and it's a bit tricky plumbing round them (after being trained in the art of zen plumbing today)

Sink from Ebay, think it was about 30% of list price but we needed a specific size.
We've got the astracast 4040 ceramic undermount.

Granite worktop (thanks to a recommendation from this board) was cheaper than the one wickes recommended (including fitting).

For glass splashback, ring your local glass shop. Thanks to doozergirl for that, ours was much cheaper than anywhere I could find and they can make to measure your exact size. we may have an offcut piece of granite so might use that as a splashback instead, haven't work that out yet.
