I think the above post about the free house price information is quite informative and and one can grab some really very significant knowledge from the same.

In the latest "Don't get done get Dom" on BBC 2 TV there was a section with warnings about the checks that home buyers need to do for themselves.
I did not realise that a mining check covers the old salt mines (wake up in Cheshire) as well as the usual coal mine check.
I lived in a house for a short period that had passed the coal mine check but about half a dozen houses along the terrace, one could track the passage of a mine underground through two terraces and a nasty dip in a fairly major road.

Fits in well with this series:

Hmmm, our house is on this, but our neighbours houses aren't. I know for a fact they're bought, but they were bought under a social housing scheme where they bought them in chunks of 25% at a time. Any reason why they wouldn't be showing (as far as I'm aware they finished paying for them some 10 years ago)?

I'm being nosey for the record lol.
  • It's a great link, thanks for sharing!

Social housing is obviously not sold at a market price and so the headline price is not shown as a "market price" for such properties.

However if you want to investigate further you can pay £3 on line to the Land Registry and see what that gives you.

If that does not give you the detail you need, you can then resort to snail mail and send in £7 to get the actual contract signed by the purchaser.

The Land Registry web site has the details and a helpful "forum" type service for the confused trying to get to grips with the application forms involved..

[useful for trying to trace pesky "restrictive covenants"]
  • Excellent! I have experienced figuring out how much a home marketed for that I made the decision not to buy and yes! they did reduced the cost due to the bad study that came returning...
  • This info has always been available on Rightmove - can also see details of my house ten years later!!
