Hi all

Thought some of you might be interested especially after all the recent talk of Staffies on here. It's a program about what happens to seven staffie cross pups that are born in "a cramped front room in East London".

Should be interesting. Ive not had much to do with Staffies personally to form an opinion on them really although I probably wouldn't choose one for myself? But maybe the program might enlighten myelf and others as to the problem and the "bigger picture" with this misunderstood breed?

Thanks, will be watching with interest! :)

Just read the BBC link ...
Seven puppies are born to a first-time mother called Uggs in a cramped front room in East London. These aren't just cute and cuddly puppies - they are Staffordshire bull terrier crosses, the dogs the tabloids sometimes call 'devil dogs'. They are both one of the most sought-after breeds in the country, and perversely the most frequently abandoned. One in three of Battersea Dogs Home's total intake is a Staffie cross.

This film follows the fate of Uggs' puppies as her owner tries to find new homes for them at 300 pounds a pup. It isn't long before boon turns to burden, however, as Uggs' owner realises the puppies are costing her more in food and care than she can ever make from the sales.

Introducing Uggs' owner and the new Staffie pup owners, this film uncovers the lives of the people from a marginalised section of society, who may mistrust other humans, but have a genuine love of the Staffordshire bull terrier.
“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”

Thanks catlou, I rarely watch so would have missed it without your post.

Watching it now. Why I find even the puppies repulsive is beyond me as I love the look of English Bull Terriers. Very odd.
  • I have missed a couple of bits - but the breeder of these pups seems typical of so many people that I come across who are breeding their dogs... not a bad person, but woefully ignorant.

I hope this programme will enlighten some who think breeding their dog will bring the money rolling in - beautiful pups though, especially Karma.
  • This programme has sickened me!!!!!!!!! The majority of these pups have no quality of life! I think it's "Boyce" being kept by a petty criminal, who thinks taking a job is lowering his standards, who's left in a tiny room because at over 3 months old he still hasn't been innoculated! These dogs are being kept in deprevation! Thank god my staffie cross is curled up on his giant pillow and will will be upside down, flaked out on my duvet, snoring on my feet, in less than an hour

Unfortunately there are thousands of dogs up and down the country living in conditions such as this, with people indiscriminately breeding them in the hope of "making a fast buck". Not just staffies but rotties and mastiffs too, and any number of crosses between them!

  • Absolutely disgusted, those poor puppies :(
