you only need an itunes account to buy from the itunes store (i think!)
not sure if it requires an account for podcasts but i doubt it
so you can use itunes as is
its only if you want items from the store that you need an account

Just want to thank you for all your help. I have set up another account but you do have to put in bank details but you can go back into "view my account" and tick "none" against the card details and it removes your card details - the only thing I can't do is update my apps but that's not a great deal.
Thanks again - now I can get on with my life!!!

If you want to setup an iTunes account without putting in card details, go into the app store and try to buy a free app. It'll ask you to sign in or create an account.

When you then create an account, in the payment details section, there will be a "none" option.

I had my card declined on Saturday which was a concern as I knew there was money in there. I checked my online banking which only updated today and the account had been emptied by a series of debits in favour of Itunes for about £30 each. My Itunes account has been hacked and amended to Chinese. The downloads are quite evidently not mine but probably for a teenager.

There is a queue of items ready to download which like the other poster I found out by clicking hoping I could see and then they started downloading to my computer. Such a nightmare.

I have contacted my Bank who cancelled the card but didn't seem otherwise helpful and I was too distraught to really ask. Itunes customer services seems absolutely useless. I am gutted that such a huge company can have such poor security.

As a single parent with a disabled child I really cannot afford for this to happen.

the security issue is more than likely at your end
either by malware on your system or a simple password
