itunes will warn for an ipod not connected to that library and warn that songs will be deletedBe very careful before taking this advice.
You have a library on your PC and on your ipod. When you sync, and your ipod is connected, itunes compares the two libraries; if there is something in the PC library that is not on the ipod it will automatically be copied to the ipod. Good huh?
Unfortunately, if you have something in the ipod library that is not in the PC library, itunes will delete it from the ipod. This accidentally happened to me and I immediately lost 20gb of music!
Personally, I never use sync as my ipod has a 60gb HDD and my home PC has only 80gb so I do not have the spare space available to store all my ipod music on it.0 -
I have recently had my account in iTunes compromised. The account has been changed to Chinese and fortunately it was spotted before too much damage was done by my bank who alerted me to an unusual purchase.
I have spent days and days talkingto iTunes via email only to be told that they cannot clear the account although they accept that it has been used fraudulently, they cannot access it apparently to change anything. I have changed my password, but that is all I have been able to change. There are three computers authorised to use my account apparently and I can't change that either so I imagine the Chinese..... still has access to my account although my card has been stopped so no purchases can be made.
What is so frustrating is I am tempted to cancel (if only I could but I cant because there is an outstanding purchase) the account altogether but that would mean I couldn't update my ipod etc.
The lady at iTunes gave me completely the wrong information so I am back to square 1 with a useless account and a horrible feeling that someone is hacking into my computer, iTunes say that the only way I can enable my account is to pay off the debt (ha ha) and they will refund me - that would be fine if only I could read Chinese!!
Anyone know what I should do next?0 -
they cant access your account now you have changed the password
you need to think of itunes and the itunes store as seperate
your itunes on your PC and your store account
the account doesnt effect syncing your ipod
you can still sync but you cant use the itunes storte account to buy things as it has a debt against it
if you have another bank card you can set up a new itunes account.
are itunes requesting you pay the debt or only if you want your exisitng account reusable?0 -
Thanks for that - but what is also annoying is that until the debt is paid off I can't download any more music etc. Sort of going around in circles.
They say that if I pay off the account I can use it again, but if I close the account I will lose my library0 -

you wont lose your library
you have those files on your PC
you wont be able to re download purchased tracks but you already have them
how long have you been using itunes to buy music?
if you have default settings you will find your music in C:\Users\your username\Music\iTunes0 -
Thanks for your help - you have helped me make my decision and I'll open another account.0

Wow - what a minefield. Have you used one or any of the applications and would you recommend any of them. I also listen to a lot of audio books when travelling so would any of the programmes be compatible for downloading books.
I should have come on here before I got so frustrated with iTunes. Thanks0 -
you can still use itunes
if you are buying audio books from itunes then it maybe easier to continue
the only times i have used other progs is to load music off my ipod when i didnt back up and had a system crash

OK - so is it possible to create another account on itunes without putting any card details in until you actually need it. Sorry to keep asking so many questions but it is always easier to ask someone who is more knowledgeable.0
